Posted on 01/19/2012 6:36:23 AM PST by djf

After getting 5-20 Inches of snow in various places in the Puget Sound region, there is an ice storm warning in effect now.

No Kiddin!! I was just out on my porch and everything has 1/2 inch ice or more coated on it. The sound of tree limbs breaking an falling was coming from all directions!

CAUTION!! If you don't have to go out, then DON'T!!!

It “rains all the time” is what we tell the people from California to keep them from moving here. Yes it rains a lot from Nov to sometimes into June. But we have some of the most mild and inviting summers in the country.

I have to agree with that snow wimps title. It’s really the NW news media that are the culprits. At the first snow of the year they will go out on location and film close-ups of green grass with a few snow flakes on them. You will see a reporter blowing breath fog for the camera to show viewers that it really is as cold as they say. And you will have reporters looking up at the sky looking for the first snow flake, with as much anticipation as waiting for the Second Coming.
But this ice storm is different.

I'm in Federal Way, and we are really iced in. We have a difficult driveway, as it goes down from the street level. The drive is completely iced over, we cannot get out.

My hubby had put his car at the top of the drive to try to get to the bus transit center and get to work today. The car is completely covered in an ice coating. The locks are frozen over, the car and windows are so hard frozen he cannot scrape them and the de-icer he has is in the trunk and the trunk is so frozen he can't open it.

Pretty to look at with the shimmering of the street light; but, deadly to try to drive or even walk on.

It is indeed a bad one, so if you are in it stay safe.

Anyone with a snowplow is going to have a few extra dollars in their pockets.

Now, now -- you know that summer doesn't begin until July 5th.

I was living near Black Diamond during that storm and was snowed in for 6 days. The kids got cabin fever the 2nd day out and just about drove us all nuts!

I've always wanted to make t-shirts to sell to tourists:

Here in Minneapolis-St Paul, we’re used to the occasional ice storm or real bad snowfall.
Rochester gets twice as much snow per year as the Twin Cities and too damn many ice storms to count.
There were two other major ones - 1960 and 2001(?) which also locked the city down for a very long time.
Rochester is also the AAA affiliate for the Twins, which hasn't worked out well for us at all.

Within the last 15 minutes or so, my power came back on.

Actually, power for me was never a problem as I have two generators and plenty of gas stashed - but the phones went out and that means Internet too!
