Correct Singing of the National Anthem

So does any bimbo really prepare anymore to learn the words of the national anthem? At the start of the 49ers game, she inserted "vallantly" rather than "gallantly". Good grief.

You’d think she’d be able to sing our anthem.

One of the few “cassette singles” I ever bought was Whitney Houston’s Super Bowl performance. It struck a cord with the crowd and with the local radio audience the following day.

Kristin Chenoweth

I would not have heard of Kristin but for the unfortunate slip up on the lyrics. A very attractive woman indeed. We at the Great Lakes, just across from the good old USA in Canada are brushing up on the histories just lately.

Should be good for both sides as far as the tourist trade goes. Recreations of that struggle of 1812-14 are in the making. I have no doubt we will hear the Star Spangled Banner well sung. True I had to go to Wikipedia to refresh my memory. I hope note is taken of the "Rocket's Red Glare" (I hope that is right).

For it was the British warship that fired these things. The Congreve Rocket was copied from British India. Of course, the attack failed. Early WMD? Please excuse this ramble, I confess to a strange stiring of emotion at this wonderful piece. Stentorian voice.(Hang that man from the yard arm).

Still, I feel the same way at the singing of "The Maple Leaf Forever". Come to think of it - it seems Canada has banished it, I hope not. Patriotism may be on the back burners to an extent. That sort of patriotism, that is.

To self:

Yep, the old version of "The Maple Leaf Forever" has gone - except for youtube. Too British, too proud. New words about lovely mountains and rivers with a bit of credit to the French. Throw in that bloomin' KUMBIAH or whatever.

America will retain it's patriotism, of course. Thank God!

Anyone who tries to sing it without the words on a “cheat sheet” is an idiot, and deserves major damage to their career.

I wasn’t aware he had an underage girlfriend.

“o say does that STAR spangled.......”

You forgot "Whose broad stripes and bright STARS....."

Of course you always know when the Red Wings come to town, their fans go, "and the rockets' RED glare...."

Sorry, no link. I watched it and immediately posted this thread. It may be on youtube somewhere, but not sure. I do agree that she overall did a real nice job, but I am so tired of these people messing up the words.

youtube gets Kristin at the August 6th 2006 opening of NASCAR races at Watkins Glen, New York State. She gets it right. About 177 "likes" and about 7 "dislikes".

Fwiw. Chenoweth is a unique surname from Cornwall, England. Chenoweths came over to the Land of the Free, well over 200 years ago. It is said most are all related by lineage.

A nice young woman she appears to be, this in a profession fraught with pitfalls.

Thanks for that info——she seems quite impressive.

We visited Watkins Glen with our 5 kids in the mid 70s.The Formula Ones were practicing. Incredible.
