SPRINGSTEEN FANS DISAPPOINTED AS SCALPERS FREEZE OUT ONLINE TICKET BUYERS
Ultimate classic rock ^ | 1.28.12

Didn’t score tickets to Bruce Springsteen‘s upcoming ‘Wrecking Ball’ tour when they went on sale yesterday? You weren’t alone. Thousands of Boss fans logging onto Ticketmaster’s website were met with frozen computer screens Friday (Jan. 27) when attempting to purchase tickets — a glitch Ticketmaster has blamed on ticket scalpers using high-tech computer programs that generated traffic that was exponentially larger than normal.

“Big acts mean big fan interest. Unfortunately this also means that scalpers are out in full force,” Ticketmaster said in a statement. “Scalpers were using sophisticated computer programs to assault our systems and secure tickets with the sole intention of selling them in the resale market.”

Further evidence of the scalper scam comes from the fact that plenty of choice seats were immediately available through Stubhub and other secondary ticketing sites. Stubhub prices for his April 9 gig at New York’s Madison Square Garden currently start at $143 for nosebleed balcony seats and top out at $8,719 for prime spots on the first level — a bit more expensive than the $98 face value they originally went for.

It was a similar situation that inspired U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) to introduce the so-called BOSS Act two years ago, and yesterday he renewed his call for the bill. The BOSS Act would aim to create transparency in the way Ticketmaster and other agencies sold tickets in attempt to avoid similar ordeals in the future.

A statement posted on Springsteen’s official website also addressed the issue, saying that ”We know that many of you have been having trouble getting tickets on this morning’s on-sales.” - well, i guess that takes care of that. I'm relieved (rolling eyes)

Screw ‘im. Never liked his music that much, and his Jersey attitude even less

Bruce should sell all the tickets at the door the day of the concert.

If the lowlife really practiced what he preached, he would have a free concert.

Profits for me, but not for thee.

...or better yet perform for free. He’s made enough money by now. Charging at this point is just greed.

April, 2008:

Rock star Bruce Springsteen endorsed Democratic Sen. Barack Obama for president Wednesday, saying “he speaks to the America I’ve envisioned in my music for the past 35 years.”

“He has the depth, the reflectiveness, and the resilience to be our next president,” the letter said.

The classic example of overhype. Couldn’t sing, couldn’t play, liberal music press loved him to death . . . about the best thing about him is that when his fans yell his name at concerts, it sounds like they’re booing him.

*chuckle*

I’ve gone to two Bruce concerts. The first was pretty good. The second had no floor seating...just standing room tickets. The floor was PACKED! Good thing I was broke and had to buy upper level seats.

New concert? Clarence died. Why bother?

I know I will upset NJ FReepers here by saying this, but Springsteen blows. Other than 10th Avenue Freeze Out, his music sucks.

I saw Bruce before he became ‘The’. Solo act. Very good and promising.

I paid $4.50 to see The Beatles live in 1966, but I sure wouldn't pay over $8,000 to see anyone, I don't care if was the queen of Russia.

You saw the Beatles in 1966? Wow, I wouldn't have washed my hand since then if I had!

Oh, and by the way, the Russians didn't have a queen, they had a Tsarina!

Many like to bash Springsteen's music and minimize him as an artist because he is a big-time Lefty (and he is). However, if Bruce Springsteen was a rock-solid conservative who supported Ronald Reagan, we would all be raving about the genius of his music (which is actually quite good).

That said, Springsteen as a person is a sanctimonious a-hole who is a hypocrite of the highest order. He's about as "working class" as Michael Moore and for all his leftist rhetoric, he gouges his fans with some of the highest ticket prices in the music industry.

Still, his body of work stands the test of time. I still get shivers up my spine hearing songs like "4th Of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)", "Atlantic City" and "Tunnel of Love". Can't deny his musical talent. But I'll be damned if I ever attend one of his overpriced shows, where between songs, he'll bash the United States, conservatism and capitalism - without which, he'd be a nobody.

I hate the guys politics (like I hate most of them) but he has done some good work. His movie sound tracks are awesome.

You are lucky, wish I could have seen him in his beginnings.

“Scalpers Freeze Out Online Ticket Buyers”

Hey, do you suppose it happened on...10th Avenue?

(yes, I know. That was awful. And not all that funny. But you knew *someone* was going to say it eventually...)
