My Front Yard, Mostly
self | Jan 29, 2012 | swampsniper

Most of these are in my front yard

It's sort of wild, just cleared enough to walk around a bit. I'm not the type to push a lawnmower around.

I'm far enough into the woods that no one has to see it but me anyway.

I especially love Cardinals.

The last time I saw a cardinal was eating outside in the touristy part of St. Augustine.....which I believe is the area in which Swampy resides.

Good Day Florida Freeper Friend,
Is the first frog , what I would call a Leopard frog? I had those in my ponds in S. Florida years ago. They were fast and could leap a surprising distance. Those ponds and denizens are the only thing I miss about that end of Fl.!
What is you take on ID?
Thanks many times over for photos.

That's a Southern Leopard Frog AKA rocket frog, because they take off like a rocket if they think you're going to step on them.

They come in green and brown.

They aren't as big as Yankee Leopard frogs but a lot smarter and better looking!

Thanks again.
Mine were more Brownish but I never was able to corner one.
Suggestion; find a book publisher to put your work to the public. It would make a nice coffee table book. NG has nothing on you.
God Bless and have a great day!

Gorgeous, as always! Thanks for sharing with us :-) I envy you being able to live out in an area like that.

You’ve got to get down on your belly and slither, LOL. There is a lot of life down at ground level.

Isn’t that frog supposed to eat that spider?? I’d fire him and tell him to hit road and find another yard pond to laze around in! (I hate spiders!! I know, I know, they’re beneficial. Still hate ‘em!)

The water spiders are well up in the food chain of a pond and adapted to aquatic life, they don't come in houses or bother people. They may taste bad, the frogs seem to leave them alone.

It would get pretty dull out here if I started killing everything not suited to be a pet or grow on a golf course.

Most things I don’t mind, but I have a thing about spiders. Any spider. I don’t care how small or if they bite. They have jumping spiders here in Virginia that will jump AT you. I got dizzy and broke into a cold sweat the second time I came across one, that’s how much they scare me.

I’ve been chased by some much bigger critters, not gonna sweat the little guys.

Yeah - and they got four eyes too!

I must say I was a bit disappointed - I was hoping for some real-time “spring” photos from your neck of the woods to give me some winter-time hope! But still - real nice photos! Always a treat.

Is the little bird with the yellow behind a Pine Warbler? I saw one (I think it was the same thing) this weekend at Green Cay but couldn’t get a photo, it was too darned fast. Very nice shots! Esp like the frog and spider together!

I called that one as a Yellow Rumped Warbler. They can be hard to pin down.

Grins. I liked that first little fella peeking out too :)

Thank you both for educating me on his official name, and for making me LOL with the final sentence in the caption - “”They aren’t as big as Yankee Leopard frogs but a lot smarter and better looking!””. Somehow that has all the makings of a great punchline ; )

Blessings all!
Tatt
