A hapless cat had to be rescued after trapping its leg in its own collar - for TWO WEEKS.

Distressed feline Phoebe was seen hobbling around a woman’s back garden after she managed to her right leg got caught between her neck and collar.

-snip-

Manager of the centre Katie Wickins said: 'We believe Phoebe may have accidentally caught her leg in the collar because it was made from elastic.

'These collars are advertised as being safe so that if the cat gets caught on something, the collar will stretch and allow the cat to free itself.

'Unfortunately this was not the case and the stretch in the collar allowed Phoebe to get her front leg through it.

Word to the wise, and yet another reason for strictly indoor cats.

I’m guessing it’s because the cat was an outside cat, and her owner thought she was wandering. Still negligent, of course.

The Good Samaritan’s manage to lure Phoebe into her home with some food.

"Staff at the animal shelter are now attempting to contact Phoebe’s owners, but are struggling because the pet is not microchipped."

Probably the Good Samaritan, or maybe stealing food put out for other cats. Or both.

yes, possibly, poor thing, every time I read about a cat that has come to grief because it's an outside cat, I want to scream, please keep your cat inside!

The same thing happened to a cat of mine, but because she was inside, I saw it right away. (She wears a collar indoors because she's easier to find that way...the bell lets me know where she is.)

Yikes. I hope she’s healed up okay, and that her owner keeps her inside from now on. Still 8 lives to go...

I have two indoor cats that I’m going to have microchipped next time they have their shots.

We had to leave another of our cats behind with family when we moved, and the old guy somehow escaped. It’s been weeks and there’s been no sign of him. I’m sick over it and want my other two ‘chipped in case they ever get out and are found. :(
