News services were quick to pick up the story last week of a Massachusetts Appellate Court overturning a ghastly decision by Probate Judge Christina Harms (pictured right) that would have forced a 32-yr-old mentally ill pregnant mother to get a late-term abortion (at 21 weeks) against her will and also be sterilized.

Although I totally agree that the trial judge's decision was legally, morally and ethically wrong, the evidence does not support the headline.

Yes, she had an abortion Yes, she has a psychotic break. There is no evidence the former triggered the later.

As we used to say in law school, she also ate mashed potatoes. Did that trigger the break?
