Welcome home, Mr. Governor. You have fought the good fight. You have earned a few scars, gained a few wrinkles, and absorbed a few blows. And you have nudged the country, ever so slightly, in the right direction. For that we are grateful.
You brought the straightforwardness of Texas to the national limelight. You captured the resoluteness of Texans and reminded us that unambiguity and resolve are qualities that all Americans should employ. You showed us that slow talk can be straight talk, that truth is simple, that reality is easily explained. No, you can't add regulation and jobs at the same time. No, you ought not borrow money if you don't have the means to pay it back.
And you reminded us that religion is as much a part of who you are as the family in whose home you were born. Our Godly connection is the foundation of our humanity. And we should wear it with pride.
As a rabbi, I appreciate this last point most of all. You wear your faith comfortably, like a well-fitted suit. It makes me feel more comfortable with public expressions of my faith, too.

America needs its tenant-farmers to clear the brush of godlessness and decadence that rises in every unplowed corner of the land. Let us, together, never cease from tilling the land that our Founding Fathers have sowed.

Very gracious and heartfelt.
Gov. Perry made the 10th Amendment a real issue in this campaign. Huge contributions to the discussion.
Thanks for the link.
Welcome home indeed, from Haskell County.
Welcome home, Gov.
There's still much work for you to do...for Texans and America!
May the Lord bless and keep you, always.
Governor Perry probably had the most conservative bona fides in the field. Unfortunately, through these debates, we let the Marxist media make punching bags of our candidates before any votes are taken. Debating ability is far overblown, especially when the hosts turn it into a “Why don’t you and him fight?” over some trivia while the rest of the candidates just stand around.
As a Texan and an Aggie, I have to admit I would have chose Palin over Perry because I feel her “walk” as governor of Alaska matched Perry’s campaign “talk” about cleaning up corruption in government.
Even though I thought Palin would better represent TEA party conservative values than Perry, Perry would be a vastly superior conservative president than Romney.
All I can do is pray that the establishment hack the Going On Progressive party nominates (Romney) will operate like Perry as far business and economics are concerned (if he becomes president).
This country needs to have its entire economy running like Texas, but I do just not see that happening with Romney.
Gingrich is smart enough to do the right thing, but it seems the establishment/media have already selected their GOP candidate Romney.
That is no surprise since Romney is nothing more than Obama lite.
Welcome home Gov. Perry. You would have made a great president, maybe next time.
When I contrast Rick Perry with Mitt Romney, it’s an absolute case of white against black——both politically and SPIRITUALLY.
God bless Governor Perry. When he left the race, my support went to Newt, but I will always believe Perry is the man we need to lead this nation. I hope and pray he will run again.
I agree with what you stated.
I went to West Texas State, now part of the A&M System. But I grew up in Haskell County 14 miles from the Perrys.
I stated from the beginning that I preferred Rick Perry remain Governor of Texas.
The sad thing is that the selection of the President should be more about who he would bring to Washington with him than about the actual candidate. The impact of that is far more important. But the selection of the candidate dictates who he selects for support.
Imagine one man trying to move 1,000 head of cattle. It requires lots of support and coordination.
For the record, some of us here in Texas are happy that he got his head handed to him when he tried to compete with the adults.
In fact, his approval rating here in Texas has TANKED since his run and it will be interesting to see what he does in 2014.
You do know that it was pointed out that those polls you are referring to were entirely democrats polled, right?
Welcome Home Governor Perry!
You would have been the best President!
As the article states, keep up the fight because you did make a difference.
This Texan is Proud of YOU!
You do know that it was pointed out that those polls you are referring to were entirely democrats polled, right?
Just curious. How was it determined that it was entirely democrats polled as you say was pointed out? Do you have link to the polling data, cross tabs, etc.? I’ve looked a little bit but haven’t found them. Thanks for any info you may know of.
I do not have it. It was posted on facebook and twitter earlier in Jan when the poll articles came out.
I went back and checked some of the TX newspapers that paid for the poll (which was done by a company in New York) but it is very vague and does not give a link to specifics.
here is what Dallas Morning News gave and a link to the original article http://www.dallasnews.com/news/politics/perry-watch/headlines/20120125-perrys-job-approval-plunges-after-failed-presidential-run-news-poll-shows.ece
ABOUT THE POLL
Blum & Weprin Associates Inc. of New York conducted the random telephone survey Saturday through Tuesday of 806 adults, including 669 registered voters
So based on the above - 17% were not registered voters.
But all of the articles state that his approval lost ground among Republicans from 73 to 60 percent over the past year.
(60% approval amoung TX Republicans is still not bad for a 3 term Governor)
“You do know that it was pointed out that those polls you are referring to were entirely democrats polled, right?”
Sure, if that helps you with it.
Thanks for your reply. I’ll look around later and see what I may find.
Thanks for posting this.
