Catwoman Speaks Out About Pepper Spray Incident In Front Of Kodak Theatre
CBS) ^ | February 3, 2012 10:00 PM | Jeff Nguyen

A woman dressed as Catwoman on Hollywood Boulevard is speaking out Friday after a pepper spray incident.

Her name is Lydia and she tells CBS2′s Jeff Nguyen that she unleashed a canister of pepper spray Thursday night when she got into a scuffle with a character dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow.

According to Lydia, the Sparrow impersonator and his friend were harassing her for hours.

“And they were out of control… drunk out here,” she says.

The incident in the 6800 block of Hollywood Boulevard was witnessed by several people.

Lydia says the men bumped into her and tourists and called her offensive names for three hours straight.

“I said ‘Listen, I have had enough. I’m gonna warn you for one last time. If you do not get away from me and get out of my face, and stop harassing me, I will pepper spray you,’” she recalls.

The fight is the latest incident involving people who dress as characters to compete for handouts and donations from tourists.

Last September, a man dressed as SpongeBob SquarePants was involved in a brawl with two people, believed to be tourists and in 2010, Los Angeles police arrested a number of characters for aggressive begging.

As a result of those arrests, police learned a number of the characters had serious rap sheets.

Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Chairman Marty Shelton says we would see fewer problems if the city required performers to get permits.

In the meantime, Lydia says she’ll hold onto her pepper spray.

“Most of the girls out here, especially ones who work in the evening, always have it,” she adds.

I’m glad she wasn’t arrested, or else she could have been charged with a feliney.

If it was self defense it wouldn't amount to a Miss Demeanor

Sounds like the squeegee kids from the ‘80’s have found a new scam.

I think John Prine has some wisdom to add to this story:

Small town, bright lights, Saturday night,
Pinballs and pool halls flashing their lights.
Making change behind the counter in a penny arcade
Sat the fat girl daughter of Virginia and Ray

(Spoken:)
Lydia
Lydia hid her thoughts like a cat
Behind her small eyes sunk deep in her fat.
She read romance magazines up in her room
And felt just like Sunday on Saturday afternoon.

Chorus:
But dreaming just comes natural
Like the first breath from a baby,
Like sunshine feeding daisies,
Like the love hidden deep in your heart.

Bunk beds, shaved heads, Saturday night,
A warehouse of strangers with sixty watt lights.
Staring through the ceiling, just wanting to be
Lay one of too many, a young PFC:

(Spoken:)
Donald
There were spaces between Donald and whatever he said.
Strangers had forced him to live in his head.
He envisioned the details of romantic scenes
After midnight in the stillness of the barracks latrine.

Repeat Chorus:

Hot love, cold love, no love at all.
A portrait of guilt is hung on the wall.
Nothing is wrong, nothing is right.
Donald and Lydia made love that night.

(Spoken:)
Love
The made love in the mountains, they made love in the streams,
They made love in the valleys, they made love in their dreams.
But when they were finished there was nothing to say,
‘Cause mostly they made love from ten miles away.

Hope it wasn’t FOX LABS 5.3. That is some seriously nasty stuff. Mileage varies on pepper sprays.
