An inmate at the Cape May County jail is being called heroic for helping to save a county employee from a vicious dog that attacked her at the animal shelter where he was working off his sentence.
For his selfless act, Justin Peggs, of Deptford Township, Gloucester County, will get three days off his 45-day sentence for assault in a fight last summer on the Wildwood Boardwalk.
Peggs, 22, grabbed a pit bull terrier off the leg of employee Kathleen James and held down the snapping, snarling animal for several minutes so staff could rescue James and get a noose pole for the dog.
James was bitten so badly that she needed stitches in three places, but she said it could have been far worse had Peggs not come to her rescue.
I dont know what he was thinking. Pit bulls can crush bones, she said.
...
the dog had been surrendered because it had attacked its owner under similar circumstances.
Shelter Manager Judy Davies said her staff would have taken precautions had they known the animal was aggressive toward other dogs.

A Pitt bull story? Chet99 is that you?
So this guy risks serious harm to himself and he only gets 3 days off his sentence? That seems a bit light to me.
Several minutes dear friends! Say three minutes. Then if he got three days off his sentence that’s 1440 minutes off per minute holding down the pitbull. On paper, I guess that’s a pretty good deal. OTOH, maybe they should make him Governor.
Did he get banned or did he quit?
I’ve seen his name repeatedly here. Why is he so infamous?
Another unqualified dog owner. People desiring to own a pit bull should be trained and properly qualified to do so, in the interests of both public safety and safeguarding the oft slandered reputations of these fine dogs. Every one that ends up attacking either human or animal is itself a victim of an ignorant and unqualified human. This can logically be deduced from the defenses of pit bulls that have been presented on FreeRepublic.com.
Looks like in this case: human assault pit bull vs. canine pit bull. What were they both doing out of their cells?
He was serving his time helping out at the shelter. I’m guessing he wasn’t much of a threat to others or to fleeing. Perhaps this was his first arrest. From a search:
Justin Peggs all 6-foot-2-inch, 400 pounds of him had jumped on a male pit bull terrier after it mauled employee Kathleen James....
Yet, even with Peggs size advantage, he told the Press it was still a challenge to keep the dog under control.
The dog was so strong he was picking me up off the ground with his hind legs, Peggs told the Press....
He got into a fist fight near the Wildwood Boardwalk last year with two strangers who made fun of his size....
He was a dude who constantly posted stories on Pitt Bull attacks. He was banned over it. He joined again and started on the dog stuff right away and was banned again. It is a bit of a running gag for people who remember him.
I don't know for sure if this is the actual culprit or not. I think so - the photo is from this link. Oh, man, that is staring death in the face! Whew!

Yeah - I saw that too and figured it was a generic shot. But - I’m guessing they are all look about the same after they have torn into your leg.
Our neighbors had the sweetest pit bull - but I was very aware of it and what it could do. They aren’t all raised up to be killers - but the genetics in their body and jaw don’t change.
That says it all. Anyone, man or beast, can have a bad day and get real angry, but few of either can effortlessly kill you if they decide to even if there are a lot of other people around.
“Anyone, man or beast, can have a bad day and get real angry...”
Which is why our 6’2” 400-lb hero was working off his penalty!
You stole my line. Heeeeeerrrrrre chetty-Chet .
I’m proud to say I was a complainant that got tired of his dog crap and helped get him ZOTed.
It’s a good gag.
I did a search of his name and his name has a lot of links on many websites.
When PETA sues him for animal cruelty ( for jumping on the dog) please post the story , and ping us..
That’s a stock photo used when reporters want to juice up the story.
