For Whitney Houston and her family, God was always paramount. That's likely why her mother, Cissy Houston, eschewed a big, public memorial at New Jersey's Prudential Center for a private, invitation-only funeral on Saturday in the Newark church that launched her daughter's career.
Newark Mayor Cory Booker confirmed Tuesday that the family has no "plans to set up a public viewing at the Prudential Center this Friday" despite reports to the contrary. He also said that the city won't be...

Whitney Houston sang the National Anthem for the '91 Super Bowl; proceeds from that performance were donated to the wounded during the Desert Storm conflict.
Because of the overwhelming response, her record company released it on a single (and may have included it on an album but the article did not state that) and those proceeds went to First Responders, Fire Fighters etc.
This post is dedicated to those who felt compelled to be extremely vile when the news of her tragic death broke. You know, some people, for whatever reason, cannot maintain the strength in their lives and resist all temptation like some of the FReepers on here can.
Anyway, thought this final chapter might be of interest to those who thought Ms Houston was nothing more than a no good addict who got what she deserved. Hope you are proud of yourselves and I'm sure that if we examined your lives, they would be absolutely explemary...right?
The callous inhumanity on display in some of those threads was gravely disturbing.

Newt's marriages, Whitney’s early death. So much sadness and suffering.
God hold all who hurt a little closer tonight.
I think the public is being Informed about the dangers of some prescription drugs, and it’s a good thing to talk about it. Lives may be saved because of Whitney’s death. It’s a teachable moment. It’s a sad story.

Good version. she did a good job...thx for the link.
yw.
Some comments were appalling.
amen to that
I thought she did better with the song than Jennifer Hudson at the Grammys.
Watching the funeral now, and it’s a beautiful moving tribute to the good things about her life. All the celebs are there, as well as all her admirers. I pray she is finally at peace.
However, if at some point, these “admirers” and so-called men of God, including Jesse Jackson, don’t come out and condemn the use of drugs in the communities they serve ...I will continue to remain suspect of this whole thing.
This also isn’t just a black issue. It’s a human issue. Addiction claims so many lives and deadens so many. The cost to society is immeasurable. I just hope over time her life isn’t consistently glossed over and the truth about the addicitons comes out. Peole need to hear it and stop glamorizing everything. Who is there to help these people when they really need it? Definitely NOT Jesse Jackson.
Sadly the folks in the Axis of Racebaiting (Sharpton, Blowprah & Jesse) have championed the “Great Society” govt programs that have demolished the black family structure and produced 70% plus illegitimacy.
