Cop caught on tape: 'I'm going to make stuff up'

Two friends who had planned to visit a Seattle sports bar claim they ended up being kicked, arrested at gunpoint and held in jail for several hours by a cop who said he intended to "make stuff up." Part of the arrest of Josh Lawson, 23, and Christopher Franklin, 22, on Nov. 16, 2010 is caught on tape by the officer's dashboard camera. But key moments of the arrest that should have been captured on video are missing and it was unclear whether the officer intentionally neglected to turn on the dash cam. None of the released footage shows the officer in the moments he made the stop or kicked Lawson. The accusations against Richardson are among many that have put a spotlight on the Seattle Police Department and it comes after the release of a Department of Justice report in December that said "serious concerns about practices that could have a disparate impact on minority communities" were raised by its review.

“So???”

I sure wish we could watch a video of cops beating down some Ron Paul supporters. They’re always fantasizing about that anyway. If it came true for once, would serve them right.

What if the cop says that to you and you don’t have him on tape?

Why would anyone want to watch a video of cops beating down anyone? Why Ron Paul supporters? Do you mean cops fantasize about beating down Ron Paul Supporters? And do you mean that a beating would serve Ron Paul supporters “right,” or a video of a beating would serve the cops “right?”

And in any case what does this have to do with Ron Paul anyway? Don’t you know that folks get zotted in these parts just for mentioning that name?

Oh well. In any case some cops are great and some cops aren’t.

Glad to hear cops making up false charges on people doesn’t bother you.

I don’t know. The OP wanted a comment. I couldn’t think of any, except that police brutality against OWS and Ron Paul supporters would liven up my day.

Forget I said anything. I’ll just lock it back up into that part of my brain that thinks about those kinds of things.

See? And I take a different view. I think cops like this make me not mind so much when a cop gets hit by a bottle. I seriously hope his guy goes so far under the microscope that if he sneezes, someone from internal affairs will be there with a kleenex.
And it’s great to hear that there are people on a board that prides itself in preserving freedom and the rule of the Constitution are ok with police brutality against people that have differing political views.
The Constitution: Remember that? The thing that guarantees protection against cruel and unusual punishment? The foundation of our system of government which states that we are innocent until proven guilty.
A lot of people here on FR seem to forget it. They just wanna see “those smelly hippies get their asses kicked”, rather than supporting people that exercise their first amendment rights.

We have totally different sensibilities. I would be seriously offended if I saw a cop assaulted in ANY kind of way, or even just mistreated verbally.

You can’t be serious in thinking that this is a serious problem for our men in law enforcement. MAYBE in lib cities, but certainly not everywhere.

Buford Pusser would agree with you.

And what about the Texas lawman caught yesterday with $1m in cash in his trunk?

Or the two cops in the news item yesterday who robbed $5k cash from a drug dealer for themselves: only to find the "drug dealer" was an FBI informant?

Cops have gone way Way WAY downhill since the days when Serpico was a shocking exposé.

I agree. There are far, FAR too many individuals running around this country with badges who think themselves Dirty Harry Incarnate or a “small-g god”. I’m sick of them. It’s way past time to clean house, America. Cops need to be held to a much, much higher standard.

Your hope is in vain - they've already been exonerated, as one might expect:

Seattle Cops Exonerated After Caught On Cam Threatening To Make Up Evidence

We showed Seattle Police Sergeant Sean Whitcomb the arrest video, and he admits the 'make stuff up' comment was inappropriate. But he says the department's Office of Professional Accountability investigated the complaint and exonerated the officer.

Cops don’t PREVENT any kind of crime. They clean up after the fact.

Think of the story yesterday of the Lunch Box Inspectors in the North Carolina schools.

Do you really think the average police chief is smarter than a NC Lunch Box Inspector?

I don’t.

Bureaucrats are bureaucrats.

Listen to the bureaucrat interviewed on this tape, in this story.

Is he smarter than a NC Lunch Box Inspector?

Nope.

So does the general population, from which they come...

Get your hands on a copy of the police contract with the city and if you know what you're looking for you will find that fabricating crimes as a way of covering up for police misconduct is written right in it.

How do I know that?

Back in the late 80’s I found it in the Corpus Christi, TX. police contract.
