Lent approaches, time to remember and indulge!
During the football season, on evenings following USC home games, the Tommy's in Rowland Heights is usually packed with Trojan fans wearing Cardinal and Gold, even though it's about 25 miles from the Coliseum.
I tried making my own at home. Close but not the same. Maybe if I eat it outside at 2am. Hmmm, well maybe.
And yes, the food at the Green Hill Bakery is great.
Worked in the area in the early ‘70s. Problem was getting served and back to work in an hour. Long lines!

Lack of exorcise maybe? I would miss fat people. They are
so easy to make fun of. Besides, if someone wants to be
fat, that’s their business.

of 1000.00 a pond for anyone over their optimal weight
which would be set by Kathleen Sebelius.
Makes me want a Whataburger meal #2 w/cheese, onionrings
and a Coke. Life is 9000 calories a day and sitting on ones
a$$.
LA is rapidly fading from my memory, but I can vaguely recall working downtown and having to hike half a block out of the building, two blocks to the parking garage, get into my car, go somewhere and stand in line to get food, do all the above in reverse, all in an hour.
There are some things I miss about LA. That’s not one of them. One of the first things I learned when I moved to Oklahoma, was that you can park right in front of things. Really. RIGHT in front. As in park, step out of car, and walk ten feet to door. It’s been nine years, and I’m still not completely used to that.
Of course, in LA’s defense, it’s not anywhere near as interesting when you get there. LOL!
I’ve been to the original, but I grew up a Valley kid so the one on Roscoe near the 405 across from the Budweiser factory was the place for me and my pals. Wednesday or Saturday nights, after cruising Van Nuys and downing a case of beer, it was a mandatory stop. I always went for the chili dogs, but eventually I figured I was just there for the chili anyway, so I graduated to the chili boat (just a bowl of chili with all the fixin’s on top).

Now that I live in Arizona, I make it a point to hit Tommy’s when we go back to visit the fambly. The good news is that Tommy’s is gradually moving south and west. They have them as far south as San Diego, and as far west as Barstow and Las Vegas. I figure they’ll eventually make it to Phoenix (just like In ‘n Out did) and I’ll never have to go back to California at all. :)
Same here... Van Nuys Blvd. and then on to Tommy’s across from the brewery. White Castle and Bob’s Big Boy on VN Blvd. while cruising. Those were some good times :-)
They are open 24/7/365. Even though there are other Tommy's locations, the food tastes better at the original IMHO.
The closest one now is on El Toro next to Big 5. Tommy's switched from Pepsi products to Coke products. They must have gotten an offer they couldn't refuse.

Remember the honor system on the soft drinks that were unlabeled? Plus the absence of napkins. All you got was
sheets of slippery paper to whip up all the chile and grease.
You had to be tough to eat at Tommy's!
Nope. In the early 60’s, they put out boxes of the wrapping paper for you to use. Same paper that wrapped the burger.
Plus, he had a deal for unlabeled soft drinks and the bottles
were just plain glass. A separate cooler for each flavor
of drink. Spartan and scrumptious.
Nobody goes there anymore, it’s too crowded!
