This Is The Worlds Largest High-Speed Wheeled Amphibious Vehicle
The amphibious vehicle company Gibbs Technologies is back at it, unveiling a monstrous V8-powered truck/boat called the Phibian, aimed at law enforcement and military agencies. It could just be the ultimate offroader.
The specs on this thing are insane. Thanks to carbon fiber construction, it weighs over a thousand pounds less than a new Suburban, and it comes with a twin-turbo V8 diesel engine quoted at 500 horsepower. That means that this thing can cruise at highway speeds (in very open-topped comfort) and also hit 30 MPH on the water. Gibbs says the switch between land and water modes takes less than 10 seconds.
Appealing to the government sector is probably a wise move for Gibbs, who have been working for nearly four years to get federal approval of their record-setting amphibious sports car, the Aquada. Maybe padding some key voting districts with giant patrol truck/boats will speed up a legislative hearing or two.

You are definitely dating yourself with that memory.
True enough.
It is moving, which my old goat did very seldom.
Great episode.
Does anyone now the application for this over using Air Cushioned type amphibious craft?
Boy, just the thing for no-knock raids on houseboats, or gunning down the family Labrador while he’s swimming after a training decoy.
This would work quite well in my portion of the country, Numerous lakes, rivers and when we get too much rain it floods easily. I wouldn’t mind having one if I could afford it.
How about,
Gator?
Croc?
Super DUCK?
any other suggestions?
I understand the desire for it as a toy.
What type of work would it be used to accomplish?
I think it would do the same work as a DUKW of WWII vintage. Many of the lakes here have no bridges to cross them and combining that with the river flooding problems that we see one of these equipped as an EMS/Ambulance would work well and maybe one as a Fire Engine with the capability of using the river or lake water as it’s water source instead of carrying it with it.
But you are correct mostly I could see it as a Big-boys toy.
Amphibious NEWT? Naval Entity With Tires.
Years ago there was a guy who would use a GG to do perc tests. As I recall that thing didn't go anywhere fast but it usually got where it was going.
