Firefox does not trust Google - Vanity
Little House on Unaka | February 21, 2012 | don-o

Posted on 02/21/2012 3:32:57 AM PST by don-o

Listening to the local news this moring, they were reporting on Virginia's legislation requiring "rans vaginal ultrasound". I had not heard that term, so I tried to do a Google search. Firefox flashed this:

This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Firefox to connect securely to www.google.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.
Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified.

What Should I Do?

If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.

I never ever use Google for search, as they record your IP for every search that you do.
While that may not be any big deal, one has to question
why they do it.

I use Startpage for all searches.
It was a privacy expert that said that using Google may not be a good idea.

If you really have to use Google, you can have startpage search Google through the back door, so your IP is not recorded.

I actually use both.

Using Google is a habit I guess.

I’m not worried too much about them ‘snooping’ because nearly everything about me is ‘out there’ because I’m a licensed HAM operator.

Unavoidable.

Not sure what that has to do with anything.
Being a HAM does not disclose ANY information about you
other then your address and license class.

That being said, I myself would not be paranoid about using their search, but I feel better in giving them the finger by using another search.
Good to let them know that you do not like their snooping and storing data on you.

Along with your name.

With that ‘little’ information, a person who is into ‘identity theft’ can do a lot.

It really doesn’t take much.

BTW.. I haven’t been active on the airways for quite a long time. Moved to my ‘new’ house over 10 years ago and just never set the ‘shack’ back up..

By default, google uses secure http (https). The text after the "This Connection is Untrusted" line indicates that the "google" site was unable to securely identify itself as really being google.

Consider the possibility that a virus (or something else) is trying to redirect your google search to some phishing site that looks like google.

Yep. When I set my computer time to think it’s 2010, I get the same message. The site ID used to set up a secure connection contains a date/time which gets it rejected if it’s too out-of-whack relative to your computer’s notion of what date/time it is.
