Cumulus Media has dropped Coast To Coast AM with George Noory from multiple markets and replaced it with its own Red Eye Radio.

Among the stations that have dropped the program are 770 KKOB & 1050 KTBL Albuquerque, 1290 WNBF Binghamton, 890 WLS Chicago, 710 KCMO Kansas City, 630 WPRO/99.7 WEAN Providence, 980 WAAV Wilmington NC, and 630/105.9 WMAL Washington DC. In two of the markets, the program has already found a new home as it is picked up by Clear Channel’s 920 WHJJ Providence and Sea-Comm’s “Big Talker” 93.7 WNTB/106.3 WLTT Wilmington NC.

For now Coast To Coast remains on a few Cumulus stations including 560 KSFO San Francisco and 570 KLIF Dallas, although the latter is no longer listed on the show’s affiliate page.

Mike was on KWMT from 2-6 pm in the early 70s. I did the news twice an hour on his show. From FD, I heard that he moved to Montana and bought ownership in a station in Deer Lodge or some other small community.

Is he doing shows on the weekends (Bell)? Or occasional fill ins? Think so...

In NYC Cumulus/ABC Radio’s WABC 770 dropped coast to coast awhile back to run Red Eye Radio and I think WOR 710 picked it up.

For awhile WBAL 1090 in Baltimore was doing Rush replays at midnight, a station that can be picked up on much of the Eastern Seaboard. Now they have an hour of Yahoo Sports Radio (formerly Sporting News Radio) then a syndie show from CBS
called Overnight America with Jon Grayson. But yes, they had Rush replays for awhile. (WRKO Boston did the same, many yrs back)

Phil Hendrie spoofs Bell on occasion, using Abba’s “Dancing Queen” as the intro

Hendrie as Bell

Right—Cumulus picking up its own shows, and Clear Channel stations picking up Premiere (the same company as CC) shows. A couple years back Clear Channel’s WXKS 1200 Boston went from
Spanish to conservative talk, and that meant that shows
like Rush, Beck, Hannity, Coast to Coast, and Bill Cunningham
were pulled from WRKO 680 (Entercom) to go to the new station which called itself Rush Radio for a time.

Cumulus owns nothing in Boston but as mentioned above they own WPRO 630 in Providence, and Clear Channel wound up with
Coast to Coast on their own WHJJ 920 while WPRO picks up
Red Eye from their own corporate parent.

Art Bell used to engage and challenge his guests. I like Ian Punnett, a lot more tongue-in-cheek approach to the bizarre, and good guests who are credentialed.

I grew up listening to Long John Nebel out of New York, on WOR.

His show was the prototype for C2C, five hours starting at midnight, and he was probably the equal of Art Bell. He was always the skeptic, but he loved a good story, and there were plenty of crackpots willing to join him. It was a live show with the guests in the studio, something C2C never does, which made for a much more interesting free-flowing discussion, and he rarely took calls from the audience, also a plus.

I used to dislike Ian Punnett for his liberal stances (global warming, in particular), but he is a very intelligent person, and on the right topic, he can be quite interesting to listen to.

Some old Art Bell broadcasts are aired on Saturdays named “Somewhere in Time.”

It hasn’t been the same since Art left the first time.
