Great slideshow. One of the few things I moss about the SoCal beach was the birds. Surprisingly, Hawaii has few beach birds...........
Cool gorush! I didn’t know that you were a bird lover and photographer too! I once went to a freeper party at your house. Great pictures!
Do you like the old cameras better or is it a matter of price? I really like the old pictures, films myself.
It’s amazing how much intensity and drama goes on right in our own backyards.
I just watched your video. Truly beautiful pictures. The expressions on the the birds faces show how at peace they are with flight, how at home they are in the air. Only God could possibly create such wonders and your pictures have caught His glory in His creation.
I love the workmanship of the old cameras but the technology is cumbersome. Digital is a lot more practical and more affordable in the long run.
Me too. I was a 'Film Luddite' and I stuck with my Nikon FE (and my Pentax Spotmatic II) as long as I could. But seeing Swampsniper's Digital Photos made me a believer in the quality and capabilities of the modern DSLR sensor's. So in Oct of 2010 I bit the bullet and after much research (and bugging Swampsniper for advice on DSLRs) I got a Nikon D3000(1) - though a Nikon DSLR was my default leaning anyway.
Counting everything, the money I've saved on film(2) and processing has now paid for my camera and all the other goodies I've acquired like a longer zoom lens (70-300mm), Ring Flash for Macro shots, remote trigger release, etc, etc. That includes the Photo Papers, Inks and Two new printers (one of which I still haven't hooked up - lazy).
So IMHO listen to The Master, SS is my FR DSLR Mentor :-)
Also, there's a website for everything Digital: www.dpreview.com. They have everything from Camera & Equipment Reviews and Spec's, to a Library of information for those new to Digital Photography.
(1) I specifically wanted the Nikon model D3000 because of the Bells and Whistles it didn't have. Like 'live view' and Video Mode (want videos, buy a camcorder).
(2) I only used Kodak Professional Film, PORTRA 160NC and 160VC, and had to order it from B&H Photo in NYC. No 'pro' camera store around me carried it. 'Back in the day' I shot primarily Kodachrome. But I went through rolls of that like a Junkie does bags of smack.
I've got to have stuff to piddle with in the wee hours when I can't sleep, most Freepers are flaked out, and there isn't anyone to talk to.
The XG-1 had been sitting for a while, getting the battery box cleaned up and installing new light seals and a mirror damper killed some time for me. I don't count the stuff that isn't working right now, it's time will come, if I last long enough.
After many shots my Sony DSLR decided not to turn the flash off. It was flashing even with the flash closed and that meant I couldn't set any shutter speed faster than sync speed. It's in the shop, it's more than I can handle with a screwdriver and a hammer. It probably took on a dose of frog pee or bird snot, it really has been around the block a few times.
I use spot exposure and spot focus, if your camera is on default setting it’s probably on wide area exposure,
I hear you. Your Sony has prolly been through the swamp and 'jungle' more times than a Cadre of Viet Cong :-)

I have to 'piddle with stuff too'. Though not at night even though my sleep timing is goofed up for now and I sometimes wake up at Midnight or 1:00 am and that's it for sleeping.
During winter up here Photography is pretty much over after Christmas - except for family B-Days (today is sunny but most times overcast, depressing and just icky). So to keep busy I've went back to playing my Guitars more and picking up new stuff on YouTube to practice. But natch I have to wait for a 'decent hour' to fire up my amplifier and 'Doodle' with any of my guitars(1).
Anywho, your pics are always great to see especially during this time of year. That way I know that somewhere the weather is nice, the 'animal kingdom' is humming along, and 'pretty soon' I'll see some colors outside besides gray too. And then it'll be time to dust off the camera bags once more ;-)
(1) Like my new Fender 'Blacktop™ Jaguar® HH' -- it's very cool. It's old school, a 'student type & style' from the early 60's -- my glory years of High School & guitar lessons :-). So when I saw it I just had to have it (in Metal Flake Silver) so I bought it as a X-Mas present to myself.
Indeed. Here are some goldfinch shots for your enjoyment. (and thanks for your kind words)
Beautiful! It is like a prayer.
Gorgeous! I just got a new camera (Nikon D7000) and it takes video. I have a video cam but I don’t use it a lot because.... well I have to get it out. :) Do you also have a video cam?
I have a little Nikon L110 with video but don’t use it much.
