Senior Dog, Senior Owner: Saying Goodbye
Yahoo ^ | Feb. 29th, 2012 | Sherry Tomfeld

Sometimes the sweetest blessings in life can be the the bitterest pills to swallow. That's how it is with an aging dog. If both the dog and owner are aged, it becomes a concern when it's time to put the dog to sleep. I thought putting my own dog down was hard. I found out that putting my Mom's beloved Molly to sleep was a hundred times worse.

And yes, God will bless you for such a kind act.

I’m so sorry.

There is a poem I can’t seem to lay my hands on right now that is from a dog’s point of view.

It’s all the regular..feed me, love me stuff.

But the last line always offers me comfort in these circumstances.

“My fate was always safe in your hands.”

Yes they seem to learn very quickly that indoors is better than outdoors. LOL!

Thanks. Good line in, “a man will walk into hell with both eyes open. Kind of like the ass and the angel from the good book.

Tom was a party cat. We have a lot of people over on the
weekends to play water volleyball, cook, eat and other
games. Tom would always welcome our friends as they came
into the backyard, and then collect a sample of whatever
anyone cooked on the grill. In the winter, he had to have
chair at the card table. He just loved parties.
He would follow us around in the yard, he just wanted to
be wherever me and my husband were. We have other cats,
but there will never be another like our Tom.

She also let us know each night that it was time for the kids to go to bed. She would round us all up and go first to my son’s room. Then she would race my daughter up the stairs to her room and then after the kids were in bed she would go to bed herself.

She sounds like she was a wonderful dog. :) It is amazing, how intuitive they are. When I’m home sick, and the kids’s school bus is about ten minutes away, our new dog, Zoey (we adopted her from a shelter with that name), gets very exicted and stares out the window.

Then, at around 5:22, my kids bring her for a walk to meet my husband at his bus top. It never fails... she runs over about five minute before, starts throwing boots and shoes and getting into the play position and growling.

Dogs are amazing animals. :)

There are many posts of “If It Should Be” around the net, most of them listing the author as “anonymous”.

This was actually written by Julia Napier, c.1999:

A simple, beautiful work.

Thank you, Road Glide.

That is, indeed, the piece I was thinking of....and it has always carried me thru the really tough times.
