Why are so many of the most talented officers now abandoning military life for the private sector? An exclusive survey of West Point graduates shows that its not just money. Increasingly, the military is creating a command structure that rewards conformism and ignores merit. As a result, its losing its vaunted ability to cultivate entrepreneurs in uniform.

When I heard an instructor refer to the President as "Peanut Brain", I realized that we were in uncharted territory.
Thank God for Ronald Reagan! I can only hope that history repeats itself!
They don't deserve your dedication and sacrifice any longer.
What used to be a disease of the Flag officers has burrowed down to the O-5 and O-6 levels. PC and public opinion is all that matters.
The troops and their familys' welfare are secondary - when our welfare was secondary to the Mission, we could handle that. Now, even the Mission is secondary to PC crap.
You'll miss it - I still do...
I would think that the goal of 50% females, and open homosexuality making for a weird, unknowable future for the military would have been mentioned by someone, but it isn’t in the article.
Grobdriver says, “Bail.” I say, I hope you and your friends stay in. Two reasons:
1. It’s a terrible time to find a job in the civilian job market, and it’s going to get worse.
2. We need all the good people we can get in the military, even if they feel helpless to fight the tide right now. Because at some point, things will change.
This has happened repeatedly over the course of history. The military was filled with timeservers and idiots when the Korean War broke out. There were still some good NCOs, but many of the officers were only capable of getting their men killed, because they had never fought. There’s a good book on it, called “That Kind of War.” Some of the officers had to be fragged, before they got all their men killed. But there were still enough good men left to turn things around, although it was tough. And it helped with General MacArthur came back in (until HST removed him).
So, two reasons, one for yourself, and one for our country. I know this is probably extremely tough. But I think the good guys have to lie low, do what they can, and take it, until things change—as they pretty certainly will.
The list, Ping

Don't give the son of a bitch the satisfaction.
My son, a 25 year Navy Captain, retired this past year because of obama and the new queer rules.
Hang in for at least another 4 more, don't walk away from what you have earned.
Thank you for your service.
May not be as easy as it sounds. The Army is starting to go through another round of downsizing.
Stick it out. I used to go to staff meetings just to piss the flag officers off.
“Look at that.....a red flag with a star on it. Are the communist Chinese coming to this meeting?”
I could not understand why good officers stayed when Obama became POTUS if they still had a number of years to go to get their twenty.
Why are they leaving?
Oh, I don’t know - maybe if one picked up a newspaper on any day of the week, all year round, it would be made clear.
I’ve got 23 in so far. I’m doing everything I can do elect damn near anyone but Obama. I covertly leave informational papers around. As a senior NCO it is incredibly hard to bite my tongue and say what I want. But I do push that envelope from time to time. I see younger Soldiers who have no clue what discipline and integrity are. Almost breaks my heart to see it but what can I do?
The prospect of spending another 15 months away from my family is just too much to bear. For what? A chance to get killed in Afghanistan? It’s not worth the retirement pay. I have 3 kids under age 7. My wife doesn’t deserve the hardship
Simple...They can't take any more of BO's BS. No Mystery.
Try and hang in there bud and while finishing you minimum time. Start reviewing and developing your professional skills towards a goal of a second sucessful career in civilian life.
Thank you for your service.
I just finished this very inspiring book. A great read about a great military man!
Medal of Honor recepient Colonel Day was not afraid to challenge the upper echelons at the personal cost of promotions.

How many months did you spend in Iraq? When I first went back in 2004 I was very motivated and proud. Now I’m just disgusted. I’m no coward. I flew over 150 hours of combat time as a UH60 pilot. But yep. I’m worried about my own skin. Not proud anymore. Not willing to risk my life in Afghanistan. Not for this president or my corrupt chain of command.
The US Military and most of it's officers and men are charged, implemented, and designed to protect the Nation and it's citizens, not to subjugate them.
To proceed toward progressive socialism, these men and women must be removed and be replaced with those that have been indoctrinated to believe that their duty is to regulate the citizen.
The left hates the Military because they would not willingly become their National Police.
Your family needs a Dad more than The Won needs cannon fodder.
