Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts had both hoped he would play his entire NFL career with that franchise.
What was speculated about for months will become official Wednesday when the Colts officially part ways with their future Hall of Fame quarterback. FOXSports.com has confirmed that Manning will be released, ending his storied 14-year tenure with the club.
FOXSports.com NFL insider Jay Glazer reported that Manning and Colts owner Jim Irsay will conduct a joint news conference Wednesday in Indianapolis. The tone is intended as a farewell tribute to Manning, whom Irsay has long championed as a close friend as well as Colts star

Sorry to hear this, though it’s not unexpected, given the $28 million the Colts would have had to pay out to Manning.
I wish Peyton well with whatever he opts for - retirement, another team, coaching, what have you. I could care less about the Colts’ organization. Jim Irsay is as big a jerkwad as his daddy was.
We can use him in SF...and get a couple more Super Bowl victories out of it.

From what I have heard, his neck is fine. The nerves are something else, but it’s not a paralyzing type thing. I think it’s more about the money, which is going to be an issue for players to deal with in the future NFL. Like anything else, the money will dry up....
Peyton....if you still want to play, I have the perfect place for you.....

I don’t think they’d part ways with Rivers. He’s not the reason they haven’t won.
Well the Colts gave him like 100 million dollars (plus all his damn commercials) so he doesn’t need the money.
He wants the respect you only get from winning rings. Despite his great regular season numbers (best ever?) he has a mediocre postseason record and only 1 Superbowl that he only got cause top ten worst QB to play in a Superbowl Sexy Rexy had an int returned for six. If not for Rexy we’d be talking about Manning as the new Dan Marino. His rival Brady still has 3, almost had 2 more. Big Ben has 2.
On top of that his little brother now has 2 (at Brady’s expense) much celebrated since he plays in NY. I don’t think he can live with that. Top athletes are super competitive. Some don’t even let their little kids beat them at board games.
And in many minds the day you retire is the day you feel like an old man.
I think he’ll be fine, I’m not worried about his health. Indy would have kept him if they could have possibly afforded to pay him and Luck (with the salary cap not really an option) and if Luck was willing to sit for 3 years which he apparently isn’t (seemed to work for Aaron Rodgers even though Favre didn’t give him the time of day vis-a-vis helping him develop).
If Rex Ryan is smart he’ll offer up his wife. The Mayor of Miami, his daughter.
If Peyton is smart he’ll not take his talent to South Beach nor join the mediocre Jets where his chances of winning aren’t any better then they were with an Indy team that would never have gone better than 8-8 without him and pay a call to San Fran.
I bet he ends up with his brother in NY, while the Sanchize begins his new life as some other teams’ backup.
No, he doesn’t. As a Mississippi State fan, I prefer him be as far away from Oxford as possible.

Let’s hope that Peyton was smart with his money. That will allow him to retire and purse other endeavors. He’s got a lot of years ahead of him and he should live them in good health. Best of luck, fella. You were a terrific QB.
I have seen too many college football players (i.e., those not good enough to play extra years in the pros) with significant physical injuries, artificial kness and the like. At some point, you have to say “enough is enough”.
The NFL needs to do something about these huge salaries offered to rookies. Maybe the first year of being pro should be a “probation” period where the contract can be canceled by the team if the player doesn’t perform.

With his salary representing about 1/5 of the salary cap there’s no room to keep him around to train a first round rookie, that would tie up over 1/4 of their cap for 2 guys that can’t be on the field at the same time. You can’t fix the rest of the team that way.
They did do that in the new CBA or this situation would be even worse.
