I am looking at 150 different heirloom tomatoes this year...I wasn't able to get around to the other dozen or so I was interested in... :-)

Thanks for another idea or two we can rip off...now to track down some rebar.

Howdy, howdy. It’s 55 and overcast in my corner of the DelMarVa Peninsula, after being in the 70s yesterday. It was supposed to clear up by now, but it looks like it wants to rain again. The ground is still over saturated from the rains we got last week, and last night’s rain didn’t help any.

I’m experimenting with planting cold-hardy veggies earlier than usual. I read that if you soak the seeds overnight in warm water, you can plant them even when the soil is too cold for them to germinate. We’ll see how that works. I’m only testing it on a few peas and radishes, so it won’t be a huge loss if they freeze out. With our crazy warm winter this year, all that bare soil was just too tempting to ignore!

Got my orders sent in finally for seeds and trees. Now I’m watching the mailbox for them to start rolling in!

Thank you for the planting information. I will fertilize as I plant, now and will plant only 2/3rs of the tomato plant.

Thanks for the thread JaDB!

Seed starting question for anyone:

I have one grow light (2 bulbs in a 48” reflecting shop light) over an old table in the basement. I have no access to the two sunny windows in my house.

How can I keep the grow-light close enough to the seedlings, when they grow at different rates, and are planted at different times?
