Wind power is a complete disaster

...Denmark, the world’s most wind-intensive nation, with more than 6,000 turbines generating 19% of its electricity, has yet to close a single fossil-fuel plant. It requires 50% more coal-generated electricity to cover wind power’s unpredictability, and pollution and carbon dioxide emissions have risen (by 36% in 2006 alone)...

While everyone else screams about offshore, ANWR, ad the Keystone pipeline, I scream for attention on the great lakes directional drilling ban.

There is no reason Michigan should be in the shape its in while we sit on an ocean of readily available natural gas.

Ethanol the bastard renewable fuel raises the total to about 5%.

Ethanol consumes more energy
in production than it yields.

Solar and wind are an adjunct to, not a replacement for fossil fuels.

No they're not... they are absolutely pure scams.

Let me make this clear to you: we do not agree. 1) Denmark has the highest utility costs in the industrialized world - 0.38 a kWh vs. 0.08 a kWh in the U.S. last I checked. 2) It is heavily subsidized by billions of kroner. 3) Claiming it meets a fifth of their capacity neglects the fact it is only utilized by Danes to meet 5 or 10 percent of their needs. 4) Wind turbines are littered everywhere and there’s plenty of Danes that hate the unsightly turbine and the constant noise. 5) They depend on neighboring countries to supply them because as I pointed out it is unstable. These are just a few points. Why the hell do you people advocate this maddness; it’s the 21st century.

I believe that the only cost-effective
solar energy is wood pellets.

And yet one country in Europe, Holland, has used wind power for a couple of centuries.

The Netherlands just bypassed solar & wind for their next electric plant ... too costly and unreliable ... the hell with carbon emissions when the economy is in a crunch.

PS if they would have had a viable and efficient alternative to wind, they probably would have used it.

Demark claimed 26 percent from wind and couldn’t close a single power plant.

The story is far worse than this one basic fact. The only reason why it works at all is that Denmark has three countries beside it that are much larger than they are.....Norway, Sweden and Germany and their grid is linked with them. When Denmark has excess power (which is quite a bit of time), they just dump the power and since their neighbours are larger (and have cut a huge sweet deal on it), it can be absorbed. Also for much of the time, there is inadequate wind which is why they yet to close a single power plant. This isn’t the best link to illustrate this point but it will do the trick. http://docs.wind-watch.org/sharman-winddenmark.pdf

I’ll support that as well..I wamt a complete analysis of the economic impact..it is a war on the economy.

Here’s a good story on the ban from a few years back.

There is no evidence that industrial wind power is likely to have a significant impact on carbon emissions.

There are two reasons why this statement is correct. The first of course is that the ‘energy density of wind is absolutely hopeless when compared to other potential sources to the overall grid. The second reason is more technical but you will find a good explanation for it here.... http://www.masterresource.org/2009/11/wind-integration-incremental-emissions-from-back-up-generation-cycling-part-i-a-framework-and-calculator/comment-page-1/#comment-3244 You don't have to read the whole article as here is one small paragraph near the bottom that clearly makes the point.... In November 2009, Kent Hawkins, a Canadian electrical engineer, published a detailed analysis on the frequency with which gas-fired generators must be cycled on and off in order to back up wind power. Hawkins findings: the frequent switching on and off results in more gas consumption than if there were no wind turbines at all. His analysis suggests that it would be more efficient in terms of carbon dioxide emissions to simply run combined-cycle gas turbines on a continuous basis rather than use wind turbines backed up by gas-fired generators that are constantly being turned on and off. Hawkins concludes that wind power is not an “effective CO2 mitigation” strategy “because of inefficiencies introduced by fast-ramping (inefficient) operation of gas turbines.”

Drill baby, drill!

This country is run by fools and crooks, it's that simple.

How dare Republicans question the waste of a mere half a billion dollars on some sham company that was a big Zer0 donor. No criminal negligence and malfeasance with taxpayer dollars for political purposes here. /sarc

And what an industrial giant Holland is, dwarfing all the other countries in Europe! Other than tulips and wooden shoes, Holland is known for their massive production of what?

To ALL: What part of “And yet one country in Europe, Holland, has used wind power for a couple of centuries.” is incorrect, wrong, or otherwise arguable?
Hasn’t Holland used wind power for a couple of centuries? Have I made a claim that it is efficient, better, less cost, or anything else? Has it been usefull? Yes. Is it an answer to every power question? No. Can it be used for some power sometimes? Yes. Can it be used all the time? No. Yet my statement still stands... And yet one country in Europe, Holland, has used wind power for a couple of centuries.

To grind wheat and to pump water, but not to generate electricity.

They have done the same in France and Spain.

Washington State law said water power is “non-renewable” leading to several thousand new wind turbines to generate the 20% renewable power mandated by the law.

We had so much water in our reservoirs this past year that utilities didn’t buy any wind power. Turbine owners are angry because they aren’t getting the income they expected.

I toured around south-east WA during a brisk windy day and only 1/3 of the big fans were turning.

Oh yea, California buys our hydro-electric power to satisfy their mandate to use “renewable” power.
