SAN FRANCISCO -- Mayor Ed Lee gave embattled San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi until 4 p.m. today to resign or face an official misconduct charge and the possible forced removal from office, sources told The Chronicle today.

Mirkarimi was sentenced Monday to three years probation, a year's worth of domestic violence intervention classes and other penalties for pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of false imprisonment of his wife. He met with Lee at 4 p.m. Monday in the mayor's office, where he was given 24 hours to make up his mind, the sources said.

The mayor's office said Lee is expected to make a public announcement sometime this afternoon.

The yig is up. Ed must have had a second helping of Gronads this morning.

somewhere Herb Caen and Hunter S. Thompson are laughing away at a bar.. This has gotten way too bizarre.. even for San FRan.

The REALLY shocking part of this story is that the Sheriff has a wife. A FEMALE wife...

It’s not really an issue of liberals devouring their own.

The real issue is that rank and file law enforcement, especially sheriff’s deputies loathe Mirkarimi.

That’s why there was so much heat on Mirkarimi.

Law enforcement’s candidate was defeated because Mirkarmimi was able to cobble a coalition of radical leftist, occupiers and homosexuals

Mirkarimi has no experience in law enforcement, except for a political appointment as a DA investigator.

Mirkarimi is also a crazy radical leftist. He helped found the California Green Party, worked for Nader and is very anti-law enforcement.

Finally, Mirkarimi is termed out as supervisor. He couldn’t get elected mayor so he had to run for sheriff.

He is incapable of doing anything except politics. That’s why he’s fighting so hard to keep this job.

I have a CCW from one of the counties in northern Cali. If I had assaulted my wife my permit to carry would have been gone at the moment the criminal act was detected. I would have had on say in the matter and there would be no appeal.
Fry the moron!!!!!!! And make sure that every law in this state is properly applied to him. If this had been a Republican politician the dummey crats would have been screaming from the rooftops in SF.

I knew I’d get corrected on my choice of words.

Thanks for that clarification and expansion on the mood of the forces he commands and would inspire and lead thru example. Big Oops there.

I agree, Ross is a political animal, not unusual in today’s world where politics is what you do for some.. a profession when it should be just the opposite.

If the SF County Sheriff is an elected official, what right does a Mayor have to demand resignation????

It’s an elected position and he was already charged and pleaded.

Can he be recharged?

Exactly. County sheriffs serve and answer to the county electorate only. Not even the President can remove a sheriff. A mayor or president can demand a resignation of a sheriff, but it means nothing. I suppose if the sheriff is unable to perform their duty (jail, long term illness) that local statutes exist to elect a new sheriff.

It would be a messy affair but the Mayor can pull it off if the Board of Stupidvisors also acts to boot his butt.

Officially no other means short of recall or election is available. The DoJ and State AG aren’t likely to do much other than shrug.

all over “misconduct”.. lol.. That’s what the Kennedys used to call a night out.
