As a lifetime Browns fan I hated Bradshaw for years but admired his leadership skills, and the number one skill any quarterback needs to succeeed in the NFL--it ain't arm strength, or "mechanics", whatever those are, or height, or speed. The number one talent a quarterback needs in the NFL is the ability read defenses. Period.

Now, that can usually be mentored, if the team has a reasonable intelligent QB(not counting JaMarcus Russell), and a decent quarterback coach. Usually though the best mentor would be a veteran successful QB. If Elway didn't have his head up his ass, he would know he had the winning cards right there in his hands-- Tebow, being mentored by Manning as a starter.

I guess a person could now say that Elway is proof positive that being a good quarterback in the NFL does not require any minimum intelligence quotient.
