Man Attacked by Mountain Lion, Saved by Bear

A northern California man who says he was attacked by a mountain lion while out on a hike has a helpful hand - or claw - to thank for his life.

Robert Biggs, 69, of Paradise, Calif., says he was saved by a helpful bear.

Biggs set out Monday morning for one of his usual hiking and gold-panning trips near Whiskey Flats when he came across a mother bear, yearling, and cub sitting on a stream bank. Biggs said he stopped to watch the bears for a few moments, but, as he turned to leave, something jumped on his back and knocked him to his knees.

I think he’s right; the mountain lion was stalking the mama bear’s cub and he got in the way. Mama was far more worried about the lion than the man and attacked the biggest threat...the lion.

The patty-cake game was simply touching the bottom of its paw with his open palm, more like a high-five. He said the mother watched the two play and her only reaction was to call the cub back. Biggs said he is certain that the mother that saved him during the mountain lion attack is the same bear he has seen in that area before.

I don’t know if I believe he played patty-cake last year... Sounds like an embellishment on his encounter this year. (which I do believe)
There’s a picture of his arm with puncture wounds at one of the sources.

I don’t think he’s lion. He bearly survived that encounter.
