DO NOT donate to the Vietnam Veterans of America. They are a scam organization and most of their income goes back into fundraising and administration.

The Wounded Warrior project is the best in my opinion but I don’t know if they accept cars.

Back around 1980 I helped start our local VVA.
I quit in less than a year when I discovered more than half the members had never been in-country.
As far as I'm concerned that's stolen valor.

Yup, great organization. My wife and I donate to them and the USO. God Bless our vets.

I worked with a local media outlet to do an expose on their clothing drive operations. The donations went to a FOR PROFIT company and only a small percentage made it to the VVA. Out of that small percentage most of it went to fundraising and administrative costs.

I give to the USO and DAV (Disabled American Veterans).

Sadly, both organizations bury me in unnecessary mailers, flyers, freebies, and other stuff I don't need.

Not too sure if WWP (Wounded Warrior Project) will take cars as a donation. However, they and Semper Fi Fund are very well-run organizations that help veterans. Semper Fi Fund is rated very highly by Charity Navigator and philanthropy reviews. Several spouses of active-duty personnel volunteer for Semper Fi Fund. Scott Martin, a Marine sergeant from Illinois who suffered a TBI (traumatic brain injury) in Iraq has been getting help from Semper Fi Fund. I treated Scott and his girlfriend to a night at the University Club of Chicago in September, 2011.

Hello oh8eleven, I had to respond to what you wrote concerning stolen valor. I disagree. If you consider that no one questions a WWII vet as to whether they are in fact a WWII vet having served ‘in country’ why would you question whether someone is considered a Vietnam Vet. WWII vets are labeled such whether or not they actually carried a rifle or were even overseas. Many rode desks or built ships or trained soldiers stateside yet not questioned because they served during WWII.

Same with Vietnam war — just because they weren’t ‘in country’ doesn’t mean they weren’t supporting troops who were. Your justification would eliminate 99% of the Navy and Air Force who supported but never set foot in Vietnam. Myself, I am am member of VVA but was not in Vietnam. I joined in late 72 but was not sent there towards the end. I joined to serve and go to Vietnam. Still I supported indirectly the evacuation in 75 through communications and from that period of 73 through May 75 we fully expected to be called upon to go back if needed.

I do understand the passion you have though and there are organizations who do not accept you unless you were ‘there’, i.e. VFW.

Jim
