SIMMONS: Bill Cosby weighs in on Trayvon Martin case
The Washington Times ^ | April 7, 2012 | Deborah Simmons

“The gun.”

Those two simple words flowed easily from the mouth of social commentator Bill Cosby during an exclusive interview Friday regarding the Trayvon Martin case, arguably the most high-profile, citizen-on-citizen U.S. slaying facing the Obama administration.

Trayvon was killed Feb. 26 in Sanford, Fla., by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman, who told police that a “confrontation” with the unarmed 17-year-old led him to shoot in self-defense.

Mr. Cosby, a Navy veteran, said “the gun” empowered Mr. Zimmerman, whose actions have stirred a firestorm of debate, protests and remarks from President Obama.

“We’ve got to get the gun out of the hands of people who are supposed to be on neighborhood watch,” said Mr. Cosby, whose remarks were the first he has made publicly about the case.

“Without a gun, I don’t see Mr. Zimmerman approaching Trayvon by himself,” Mr. Cosby explained. “The power-of-the-gun mentality had him unafraid to confront someone. Even police call for backup in similar situations.

“When you carry a gun, you mean to harm somebody, kill somebody,” he said.

Zimmerman did not need to be carrying a gun.

First off, it's his right to carry one, you weren't there so I don't know where you get off saying he did not "need" to be carrying a gun. Secondly, there's a reason why there is a "neighborhood watch" - a lot of apartment complexes, and other residential areas have neighborhood watches and most people who are part of the watch have a license to carry a gun or carry some other kind of weapon. It's stunning to me how ignorant people can be.

Does Mr. Cosby know by un arming America it will give thugs more power to do this kind of thing. People like this will always get weapons. We the people will not give up our 2nd amendment.

Cosby’s reasoning is flawed. Maybe he’s tired of bucking the tide.

We’ve got to get the THUGS out of the NEIGHBORHOOD. Then we wouldn’t need a neighborhood watch.

Get back to me after you solve that problem, Billy.

"Strawberry, raspberry, blueberry....I'm berry, berry happy to be back working with Jello", said Bill Cosby.

We must remember, his brain's in a blender....it's Jell-O.....

Okay, Bill. Let’s start with the government and your bodyguards.

Hey Cosby, what if Martin approached Zimmerman? Methinks he did.

A few more questions: Cosby, what would you do it Martin sucker punched you in the nose? Would you cry like a little girl while you let him bash your little remains of brain in?

From different articles I’ve read both the elderly man and his wife were just getting over food poisoning, and were still sick and very weak. They were due to be admitted into a rest home the next day. I doubt that they were able to defend themselves even if a gun was available.

They said more feral blacks were involved, but so far not a word if they’ve been captured or not.

I think a better answer, instead of removing all the guns, would be to remove all of the drugs. Let all of our cities be drug free zones.

Of course, the illegal drug industry gives an income to a huge segment of our population who can’t find employment the legal way—thanks to Obama’s economy. It is the associated crime from this industry that causes the rest of us to arm ourselves and monitor our communities with block watches. Of course, Bill Cosby, living in the secured luxury of his Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts estate, probably thinks a block watch is something you use to tell time.

Well, I am glad to see him self-destruct like this, as for the past 30 years I thought I was the only person in America who disliked him.

Enjoyed his performances in the old “I Spy” days and that Bon Homme carried over to his other shows - until I attended one of the “Solid Gold” show tapings. He had a cameo there and came out on stage and sat on a stool and started promoting some book of his. Everybody was clapping and cheering. As the applause died down, in a very disdainful manner, he looked at the audience and said “Yeah, yeah, just buy the book.” Boy, my deflectors went up and stayed up after that.

Later on I had to bite my lip whenever his name came up as the few times I disparaged him, people looked at me as if I had defiled a god.

The "Great Society" programs promulgated by LBJ and his liberal minions created a mass of feral young men raised by women and therefore unschooled in the teachings a male needs to become a man, not just a two-legged dog.

The gangsta culture is just a ersatz father figure that these Lord-of-the-Flies raised boys of all races have adopted to fill the void.

Coincidentally, today I just reviewed my scout manual to write a letter of recommendation for a young man to be awarded Eagle. It reminded me how lucky I was to be raised in an era when boys were taught how to grow up to be men.

I fear we may need to violently end the lives of many of these animals.

Nothing can disguise the sad reality that the British Commonwealth is now disarmed and that they voted for it.

As for Bammy Boy, he is:
1. America’s greatest arms and ammo salesman.
2. The best incentive to Constitutional studies since King George.

I believe that w/o that gun, Zimmerman would have been murdered or seriously injured.

The fact that Sanford police refuse to arrest Zimmerman tells me Zimmerman is innocent in the eyes of the law. That is good enough for me.

“When you carry a gun, you mean to harm somebody, kill somebody,”

This is easy to disprove. Cosby needs to put a gun in his pocket & walk around town. I seriously doubt that Cosby will have the urge to kill somebody. But, I'll bet his sense of security would increase.

Bill Cosby,as a American who (I assume) has never been convicted of a felony and doesn't have any kind of dangerous mental illness,is specifically entitled to carry a firearm himself under our Constitution,as recently confirmed by out Supreme Court. And being a *very* famous and *very* wealthy guy he'd probably be very *wise* to do so...or have someone do it for him.

Nobody, other than Zimmerman, can be certain of what happened at this point. But various press agencies having altered "evidence"...all having made Zimmerman look worse than he should...is *very* telling indeed.
