“The gun.”
Those two simple words flowed easily from the mouth of social commentator Bill Cosby during an exclusive interview Friday regarding the Trayvon Martin case, arguably the most high-profile, citizen-on-citizen U.S. slaying facing the Obama administration.
Trayvon was killed Feb. 26 in Sanford, Fla., by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman, who told police that a “confrontation” with the unarmed 17-year-old led him to shoot in self-defense.
Mr. Cosby, a Navy veteran, said “the gun” empowered Mr. Zimmerman, whose actions have stirred a firestorm of debate, protests and remarks from President Obama.
“We’ve got to get the gun out of the hands of people who are supposed to be on neighborhood watch,” said Mr. Cosby, whose remarks were the first he has made publicly about the case.
“Without a gun, I don’t see Mr. Zimmerman approaching Trayvon by himself,” Mr. Cosby explained. “The power-of-the-gun mentality had him unafraid to confront someone. Even police call for backup in similar situations.
“When you carry a gun, you mean to harm somebody, kill somebody,” he said.

I used to respect you Bill.
When I carry my firearm ,I mean to defend myself or my family against criminal types. What part of that doesn’t Mr. Cosby understand?

Eric Holder's people love gun control because they consider violent crime to be a legitimate career path, and armed victims to be an OSHA violation.

This is the strongest argument by the liberals to date. The solution would be not to remove the weapons from the community but rather to be sure that anyone like Zimmerman is not alone.
I am greatly disappointed with Cosby. Perhaps he's getting senial. First, Zimmerman did call for backup, hence the 911 call. Second, it was Martin who confronted Zimmerman which was confirmed in the 911 call and an eye witness. Third, people carry to protect themselves from being killed by hoodie-wearing punks. Fourth, we've yet to see who's finger print was on the trigger.
Bill, so what do you think “empowered” Trayvon to walk up to someone and ask if they had a problem and say they had one now and start beating him? Trayvon didn’t have a gun, nor did he know Zimmerman had one.
Sorry Bill but “the gun” did not make Zimmerman do it, Trayvon did.

When, in the 50's? Cosby has been a racist for a looooooooong time. When he used to sub for Carson on the Tonight show while Johnny was on one of his miriad vacations in the 60's, all the guests and the whole band would be black. Did you ever see a white male portrayed as anything but a criminal or an idiot on the Cosby Show?

But what if the sidearm was not pulled out until AFTER Trayvon Martin had George Zimmerman down on his back on the ground and was getting punched in the face?
It is not like Zimmerman was carrying the weapon, cocked and loaded, at the ready while stalking Martin.
AS far as “fearless” went, Martin was being a lot more “fearless” than Zimmerman, who was returning to his vehicle while trying to spot Martin, apparently skulking somewhere behind Zimmerman.
I was never a fan of Cosby as a person tho I did think he had some good stand-up comedian stories.
I also liked the “Fat Albert” shows.

Zimmerman didn't approach Martin. For a while he followed and watched him. Martin later approached Zimmerman.
If the parent or ....wait that is part of the problem. THE PARENT and not BOTH parents due to divorce or simply not getting married and having a bastard child had educated the kid with some manners we would never hear about gangs and gang bangers. Its time the parents are questioned about how this kid was raised. I do not know if this individual kid was a bastard child but in either case the PARENTS need to be investigated on how they raised him.
Don’t lose sight of the fact that Bill Cosby’s son was shot to death during a carjacking. He’s most likely thinking from that perspective. And he has a point that perhaps Mr. Zimmerman acted in ways an unarmed person would not have that evening. We’ll find out soon enough when the investigation is concluded.
Cosby should be smarter than to be so easily taken in with the left’s fake narrative. I’m embarrassed for him.
Let’s not be too quick on condemning what Cos is saying ... he’s not calling for a gun ban, just having the wannabe cops pull back a tad. To the extent that the Watch and VCOP programs are riddled with them, I can’t say I disagree. And I’ll bet that as a result of the Martin case and the law suits that will ensue, Neighborhood Watches nation-wide will do exactly what Cos is saying. But make it a rule promulgated by the groups themselves, not by the gubermint.
An armed person does act a bit differently.
With me and I have learned, with others one tends to be much more polite because an armed individual doesn’t want to get involved in a situation where he has to use the weapon.
He also is more confident because he knows he can more likely take care of a really bad situation.
Now for thugs, it might be a different story but they would not obey any laws affecting carrying or using arms.
Leave me and mine the hell alone, Cosby. If you want to take my gun, COME AND GET IT yourself.
Remember, Neighborhood Watch is a Federal program, and is NOT YOUR FRIEND. If you are forming a neighborhood defense group, do NOT call it Neighborhood Watch.

When I am in a neighborhood watch, where 7 burgluries have happened (Where was Trayvon on those nights?) and I see someone wandering between the houses in the rain, in the dark.. I would want a gun too.
As far as I am concerned there is one less budding thug in the world, rather than one concerned citizen

Mr. Zimmerman called for “police backup” as he was watching the hooded suspect (and yes, hoodies represent bad guys and bad happenings). Read his police call transcripts and get the facts, Mr. Crosby, before you lose your hard-earned credibility.
You don't know what the hell you're talking about. Neighborhood Watch _IS_ a "gubermint" program, from stem to stern, top to bottom. Every group is registered on a .gov website.
I WILL NOT leave my home without being armed. If that means I don't participate in Goobermint Watch, I will quit right now.

You are correct _ I work in Security but we do not carry guns in Australia. I will approach people if I feel safe to do so - I normally will not approach a group of young males or anyone who rings alarms in my head. That being said there is always that one percent who will approach you. I wouldn’t mind having a gun as a deterent for them.

I respect his right to his opinion, even though I do not agree with it. Agree or not, he's a straight shooter.
We wouldn’t need “wannabe cops” if the real cops were actually doing their job. Don’t need to be a member of a “neighborhood watch” to carry a gun and watch your neighborhood. I watch my neighborhood all the time and don’t belong to any group.
Too bad "The Music" Cosby wasn't carrying that day, and couldn't give the carjackers a few extra holes. Oh, that's right, the state he lived in doesn't allow concealed carry, except when you pay off some sheriff.
FReepers (and Cosby) would do well not to "lose sight of the fact" of the SECOND AMENDMENT. It is in force. Get used to it.

How come in places like my old home of Roscommon we don't kill people. We all have guns. Only critters and deer need to worry.
