Who out here has teenagers that still hold their parents hands? Mine wouldn’t be caught dead doing that in public. All part of the big fake happy family image.
Ya think?
I grew up in MD — and still live here — but my mother was from Philadelphia. Also, I may be older than you (65).
In the 1950s, our Easter shoes were black patent leather. Mother would have all nine of us — 5 girls and 4 boys — dressed to the nines for church. The Easter outfit for us girls would be the whole shebang — new dress, new hat, new gloves, even new socks and undergarments. And that same outfit was worn each Sunday for Mass through the summer.Such memories.... I sure do miss my mother.
My family has only one or two church outfits for each season. We pass things down and only get new items for the biggest children, or when something is worn out. I suppose my youngest will get everything new, because I’m not going to save clothes from the sister 12 years older!
So grateful he was not at my church.
I have always wondered, but never looked up. Easter brings up images of ham being consumed. Has Obunghole ever been seen eating ham or any other pork product?
It is impossible for Obama to sound like a devout Christian, even when he tries. The man is Muslim to the core. "Something bigger than ourselves".
No Christian would ever say that. He would refer directly to Christ as GW Bush did when he said, "When you turn your heart and your life over to Christ, when you accept Christ as the savior, it changes your heart."
Obama is very clearly not Christian. He reeks it. Nobody is fooled by the evil Muslim traitor but those who are liberal and willfully in denial.
Oh, I did the hand-me-down thing with my 4 boys (4? Yeah, a slacker by your standards. :-) Recently, I was looking at old photos. Among the pictures, of course, were shots from various birthdays for each child. Three of the boys appeared in photos from their respective 2nd birthday celebrations wearing the same green shirt. Too cute.
And I know Mother handed clothes down for us, too, but apparently she had a thing about brand new clothes for Easter. Maybe it was tied into her spring cleaning, a topic I could write a book about.
1 Corinthians 15:12-19 NIV
The Resurrection of the Dead
12 But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. 15 More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. 19 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.
My mother was a heck of a cleaner, too. Maybe it’s a Philadelphia thing ;-).
Son #3 was able to wear the same suit for First Communion as Son #1, seven years later. I don’t think it will fit Son #4, though: he’s big for his age. Maybe we have another size hanging in a closet somewhere; if not, I’ll have to start shopping!
My “middle girls” out of 21, 14, 12, 2 mos can wear some of my clothes, and the younger one usually fits the older one’s outfits a year later. One is taller than I am and the other soon will be, but the 21-year-old is 5’1” and I’ll always look down on her ;-).
I’ve been thinking about this, because I have daughters the same age as the Obamas’. My 12-year-old would hold her father’s hand, as Malia is with Barack in the picture, but my 14-year-old, who is at least 3” taller than I am, would never hold my hand just walking along like that.
Neither would I, at her age, but at 45, I’m happy to hold either of my parents’ hands!
