Yes, but a candidate Romney would be hamstrung in debating it because of his ugly history with RomneyCare in Massachusetts.

Supposing they do strike it down, SCOTUS will be a Dem election issue that won't hunt.

Striking it down would work to a candidate Romney's advantage. It would take some of the onus off RomneyCare. He need not say much, just sit back and let Obama look like the demagogue that he is in blasting the SCOTUS for its ruling. That won't hunt, as you say, because all polls show the electorate opposing Obamacare by a wide margin.
