HOUSTON – Police say two suspects got away with a 71-year-old woman’s purse, but they didn’t get away with it for long.

According to court documents, just 10 minutes after the theft, the same suspects were stabbed by another victim they were trying to rob.

Now, Mitchell Womack and Ronnie Curry are facing aggravated robbery charges.

It all started on March 30, 2012, around 7:15 p.m., when police said the suspects approached the 71-year-old victim as she walked to her car after work in the 7400 block of Harwin.

The victim said she noticed the men pull up in a gold car, and then the passenger got out and demanded her purse.

When she refused, the victim said the passenger punched her in the mouth.

The impact knocked her to the ground, and she let him take her bag.

The victim said she had to roll over to keep from getting hit by the suspects’ car as it sped away.

But police said Womack and Curry tried to rob another person about six blocks away, and it didn’t turn out so well.

Happy ending indeed. I wonder if it was “for Trayvon” or if the vics where also of color. Scum like that make me feel sorry for all the upstanding Blacks that would love for the race baiting crap to stop as much as the rest of us.

I think you’re referring to the swords used in Wu Shu that are supposed to be demos only. We used dull, heavier broadswords, and still got lacerations during practice. Fortunately, our sifu was also a practitioner of Chines medicine and had herbs that smelled like Christmas cookie spices but that stopped bleeding very quickly. It’s pretty bizarre to practice w/sharpened ones.

Maybe I need to make myself a little more clear.

Back in the 1970’s when I was in the service I had some interesting experiences. But for this little screed all I will say is that I would be absent from civilian life for month’s at a time with no contact with news media or other entertainment facilities.

When I would come back to the U.S. I would see more and more tensions in the street and especially in the news. There was NO good news it was always something it seemed that was designed to get certain “elements” of the populace more and more inflamed and willing to do acts that were at the least anti-social and at the worst totally illegal, rape, murder, etc.

And the “normal” citizen who just wanted to live peacefully and have and raise their children in the same way they were raised began to look at the cities, especially the inner cities where there had once been neighborhoods in a different light.

Gone or at least going was the sense of community and knowing that your neighbors could be relied upon if you needed help. Knowing that Mr. Johnson could always help if your bike needed to be fixed. Or that Mrs. Smith’s house was a good place to go if you wanted a cookie or a drink if you needed one.

Gone or going was the knowledge that as a kid you could go outside to play all day long in the summer and your parents didn’t have to worry about your safety because there were always the eyes of your neighbors watching out for all of the kids and keeping an eye on the neighborhood.

In any case life for the citizenry was changing in uncomfortable ways, for instance there had always been gangs of teenagers, but for the most part they were large groups of friends doing things together, now the media was showing and highlighting a different kind of gang. Teenager and early twenties who were to be honest, quite vicious and to get respect in the gang you had to be just as vicious or even more over the top in savagery. The Bloods and Crips come to mind immediately.

Movies were being made that portrayed these types of gangs and what appeared in the movies was being copied across the nation by “disadvantaged youth”.

An interesting thing occurred then, Charles Bronson and the Death Wish movie came out. He was called an anti-hero by the critics and the media. But I saw a cooling down of the rhetoric by the media and the tensions they had been pushing and prodding began to diminish and after Ronald Reagan was elected president it was “Springtime in America” again.

Now looking back through the filter of time I believe that the media learned an interesting lesson on how to effect the social dynamics of a country through small but near constant repetition of a message they wanted to present.

And they’ve been doing it again since 2001 and they are about to see the fruits of those seeds they planted come forth and I believe that they just cannot wait for it.

And this time... I’m not sure that it will be stopped or even just be allowed to die down. There is a prize, a goal they have been working for and they are not going to stop until they win it.

And the Losers will be the people of the United States who used to be the majority and considered to be the “Normal” ones. The people who believe that work will be rewarded and that their families and children are precious and are worth every bit of sacrifice to raise their children to be upstanding “Normal” adults who will in their turn have families of their own...

You are correct, those are the blades. I hesitated in calling them Wushu, because there are so many different kinds of Wushu blades.

As far as stopping bleeding goes, the US Army has invested a lot in the development of “potato powder”, and for a long while they bought up just about every bit that was manufactured.

Marvelous stuff. One of the OTC kinds now sold is called Urgent QR, and I’ve even had success with it even on scalp wounds that typically bleed all over the place. I gather that with direct pressure, it can staunch bigger capillaries than I had to deal with.

It makes what looks like great big scabs over the wound that behave much like regular scabs. It’s a lot better than the typical vasoconstrictors that are used, which can cause problems. And it is also non-toxic. Still kind of hard to get in drug stores.

If you don’t have anything special to stop bleeding, just grab a tea bag, wet it and press it on the wound. The tanic acid acts as a vasoconstrictor.

Be warned, it will sting!! but it will stop the bleeding.

But I see civilization starting to breakdown. And once a segment of the population doesn’t care at all about what is legal or illegal then anything goes. I’m not saying its right, I just think that it is a good possibility if things keep going the way they are.

If civilization breaks down to that extent, then long before it's "boobytrapped purse" time, it will be "shoot hoodie wearing thugs on sight" time.

And knife injuries are far more prone to kill than gunshots, even with emergency medical care.....Bullshit. Remember the scene in “raiders of the lost Ark”? All the slicing and dicing you want will be stopped WITH A .22 in your elbow. Let alone a .44 in your nuts.

Most knife attacks are warning cuts, whether they were intended as such or not, they are magical, ‘stay away from me’ cuts and jabs.

Your chances of meeting someone who knows how to use his knife, and who maintains a high grade knife devoted to fighting is very slim.

Guns are serious, knives rarely so, although a couple of thousand people are killed with knives every year, we don’t need research to tell us that knives, from kitchen knives, to pocket knives, are probably used on a massive scale to stop arguments and aggressions, without being deadly, or even inflicting wounds bad enough for the drunks, or the dopers, or the brother and laws, to seek medical treatment.

I think that many people if they think on it a few minutes can remember when people they have known have indulged in, or been on the recieving end of a little meaningless knife incident.

Knives are exceedingly serious. Typically, a police officer will be threatened with 8 times as many knives as guns.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tueller_Drill

The Tueller Drill determined that in a duel between a person armed with a holstered gun and a person armed with a knife, that within 21 feet the person armed with the knife has the advantage.

Professional and experienced LEOs typically fail the Tueller Drill at 15 feet.

About 2% of all officer deaths in the US per year are from stabbings. As a percentage of stabbings resulting in deaths, the stats show about 8 of 10 will die from the stabbing.

To put that into perspective, the death rates for firearms is about 6 of 10 shootings result in fatalities.

I prefer facing knives. The stuff you are claiming is total nonsense, knife statistics are impossible to know because the use of knives is so common and routine that people sober up, patch the cut or wound and never go to the police.

The knife is the weapon that is most frequently used among friends, family and party buddies, yet they only account for a couple of thousand deaths a year. I have faced my share of guns and knives, I much prefer facing the knife whether I am armed or not, in fact, in some cases, the problem was trying to slow the laughing as the angry drunk tried to cut me or someone else.

This is an idiotic claim.
“”And knife injuries are far more prone to kill than gunshots, even with emergency medical care.””

If that were true, there would be 100s of thousands of knife deaths.

Here are the wound figures for 1992, and as I said, most knife cuts and wounds are covered up by the people involved. “”Another 134,000 gunshot survivors and 3,100,000 cut/stab wound survivors received medical treatment.””

Unless all those new “assault knives” and “cop killer knives”, “exploding knives”, and “hollow point” knives that must have appeared over the last 20 years changed the percentages, then no, “”And knife injuries are far more prone to kill than gunshots, even with emergency medical care.”” that isn’t true.

Pedestrian woman with “booby-trapped” decoy purse gets hit by car and knocked out; cop on the scene opens purse to look for identification...

That’s why booby traps are illegal and dangerous.
