Officials: Inmates use code to call for drugs, guns
The State Corrections Department in Santa Fe said prisoners are using the Aztec language to build a new empire inside prison walls.
Capt. Joel Lytle said inmates have used the Aztec language, called Nahuatl, to communicate among each other. His staff recently confiscated a letter written in the Aztec language and translated it.
Lytle said the letter sparked an investigation because it said a lot, and 30 inmates are currently being investigated for possibly trying to start a gang inside the prison.
"If numbers of the gang members increase, then violence in the penitentiary rises. That also means violence out in the street can rise, as well," Lytle said.
Officers said prisoners will use the so-called secret code to call shots outside of prison for drugs and guns.
"Honestly, all they are trying to do is get over on us, get over the system," Lytle said.
Guards said the more they know, the better, because it can help curb violence.
"By us being diligent and trying to learn this language, that's how we combat that type of activity," Lytle said.
Does this mean we could be back in business again.....ping
I wonder where they were taught the Aztec language. Prison? College?

Idiot.
All prisons are run by gangs.
At least one inmate probably spoke it back in Mexico and taught the others. There are several isolated regions with large indio populations where the old, pre-conquest languages are spoken.

My cousin’s sperm donor of a daddy was an illegal immigrant, so now my cousin thinks he is Aztec. Got tattoos all over him saying as much. He looks like an idiot.

There was a white supremist prison gang in California that developed a cypher that was as unbreakable as the German Enigma machine.
