Inspired by a classic Hollywood western, dozens of single women have been bussed into a small Spanish town in a desperate attempt to stem a severe bride shortage which is threatening to decimate the local population.
In scenes reminiscent of the 1951 film 'Westward the Women, starring Robert Taylor and Denise Darcel, bachelors in the town of Candeleda are being introduced to women from Madrid.
The small town of 6,000 on the banks of the picturesque Lobera River, hosted a weekend fiesta to welcome 68 women for a meet-and-greet with the village's single men.
Ancient cave paintings show Candeleda has been inhabited for some 5,000 years, and resident Jose Miguel, 67, said he would hate to see its population dwindle after such a long history.

“Bussed” means they were kissed.
“Bused” means they were subjected to the indignities of public transportation.
Just saying.

I imagine that, as occurs in other small towns, a good percentage of the young adults moved away for school or work.

Funny, they credit a movie which even IMDB shows it looks like it went straight to video in 1951, but in the title references the TV show “Here Come the Brides” about a similar exodus (and true story) critical to the foundation of Seattle.

I imagine that, as occurs in other small towns, a good percentage of the young adults moved away for school or work. I would also guess that women are more likely to stay in the bigger cities, as it affords more opportunity to meet "Mr Right".

Some of those gals aren't going to help “repopulate” the town...they're just out for a good time.
