The coming golden age
The Space Review ^ | 04/23/12 | Eric R. Hedman

It is not uncommon to read articles and blogs from space advocates lamenting that we as a country don’t prioritize space exploration the way America did during the Apollo era. Others complain that we have retreated back to low Earth orbit ever since abandoning the toehold we had for six short missions on the Moon. Some of the writers worry that the Chinese, Russians, or even others will get out to deep space before we return. To them, the Apollo era is the long past golden age of space exploration.

The Leftist establishment is bound and determined to keep humanity imprisoned on Earth. It is going to take a very big effort by the American people to overcome this problem.

Sorry, guys, but we aren’t going much of anywhere in space till we get some sort of effective drive that doesn’t involve throwing stuff out the back in order to move forward. Rockets won’t cut it.

Well, duh!

It's too hard to dominate and enslave the people on a single world let alone across the far reaches of the solar system.

Rebellion against earth is a fairly common theme in sci fi.

One of my first experiences with sci fi was a book called “Revolt on Alpha C”

That you have to carry everything you intend to throw out the back. Which means the longer the trip the more massive your fuel stocks, which means it takes more fuel to accelerate. It’s a vicious cycle.

Personally I have hopes that research into the gravitational force will pay dividends. If we had one thousandth of the control over gravity that we do over electromagnetism the universe would open up to us.

Well, the solar system, anyway.
