Mitt Romneys campaign manager did not simply make a gaffe when he said the campaign would reset, like an etch a sketch. He hit a meme that defines Romney. Romney will erase anything he has said in the past as long as it will get him votes today.
While Romney has been all for drilling and lowering prices as a candidate, what he did as governor was far different.
From TNR.COM:
He is calling for Obama to fire his Energy secretary, EPA administrator, and Interior secretary, saying they are to blame for high prices at the pump. No question in my mind that theseI call them the gas-hike triothat those three are on a mission to drive up the price of gasoline and all energy so that they can finally get their solar and their wind to be more price-competitive. Thats what they want to do, Romney said on Monday.
Curiously overlooked, though, is just what a shift this rhetoric is from the approach that Romney took on the issue of gas prices while governor of Massachusetts. Befitting his profile as a moderate Republican who cared about the environment, Governor Romney responded to price spikes by describing them as the natural result of global market pressures and by calling for increases in fuel efficiencythe same approach that he now derides Obama for taking as president.
At moments, Romney went so far as to make high gas prices out to be a welcome reality for the foreseeable future, one that people needed to learn to live with. When lieutenant governor Kerry Healey, a fellow Republican, called for suspending the states 23.5 cent gas tax during a price spike in May 2006, Romney rejected the idea, saying it would only further drive up gasoline consumption. I dont think that now is the time, and Im not sure there will be the right time, for us to encourage the use of more gasoline, Romney said, according to the Quincy Patriot Ledgers report at the time. Im very much in favor of people recognizing that these high gasoline prices are probably here to stay.
When Romney was a governor, he was a liberal. He liked the high gas prices, just like Obama likes them. When he had the chance to give consumers some relief from high gas prices, he acted just like a liberal.
This is nothing new for the etch a sketch man. He does not want us to think about anything other than what he is saying today. That is why the etch a sketch meme is resonating. It is so true about Mitt Romney. He literally erases what he has said or more importantly what he has done, depending on the day.
When are the Republicans going to buy a clue? Romney is as liberal as Obama. He is not an anti-American Marxist like Obama but his policies are just the same. There is a reason why former Romney advisors went to work for the Obama Regime.
Romney is the candidate who cannot beat Obama. If for some reason Obama managed to lose the campaign, there would be almost no noticeable change from the Obama Regime to a Romney administration.
We have not had a conservative Republican nominee since Reagan. How many times does the GOP shove moderates or liberals down our throat before we do something about it? There is a reason why we all look back to the glory days of Reagan. We do not look to the glory days of George H.W. Bush. There werent any. Nor do we look to the glory days of Bob Dole, George W. Bush or John McCain.
Unless we can deadlock the convention and force the issue, we are totally screwed by Mitt Romney. We conservatives have a choice. Either we get serious and take over the GOP or we go to another party. If Romney gets the nomination, he becomes the de facto leader of the party. Dont look for conservatives to have any influence with the party. It will be more of the same northeastern RINOs who have given us such winners as John McCain and Bob Dole in the past.
Romney may be close to the point where he actually locks up the nomination. When that happens, look for the true Mitt Romney to show his colors.
Since Romney is a liberal, trust me, we conservatives wont like it.
I guess that will work hang on while I find it. I think I wrote it on the inside of a pizza box. Or one of those Chinese-food cartons. You’re not in a hurry are you? This could take a while.
As long as you get to it by next week. I stopped writing on my pizza boxes, damn dog likes the box more than the pizza.
Now where is that box from Barako's Dog's On The Bun?
LMAO, my dog won’t even TOUCH that box:)
Herman Cain: ‘People, get a grip!’ Differences between 2 candidates are huge.”
Is Cain GOPe too?

The sad truth about American politics today is that if you want to run for office with party backing you’d better kiss up and support whoever they anoint.
I can't support Romney, and obviously not Obama, who is even worse, because both are anti-Constitutional Liberals.
That no more makes one an O-bot than it makes one Swiss Cheese.
It does not matter what party letter follows their names, their demonstrated policies are alike on several seminal issues, and Mitt's 11th hour conversion just isn't credible with me.
The GOP and Romney can't out-Obama Obama, they can only appeal to a different segment of the population so they will end up competing for the same vote. ...And we've see this 'out-democrat the liberals' gambit before. Each time it has (re-)elected the Democrat.
No Conservative can embrace Mitts historical stances on the issues, and the GOP knows it, and while I often assumed ignorance or myopia on the part of party elites in the past, this time I don't.
Now, I see malice toward our Constitution and the American way of life. Now, I see a different group who want their socialist leader in power so they get the 'dachas' and the high life, and damn all else.
It's all about who gets the control between the two parties, not about returning any control to the people.
Both Parties have been hijacked.
At this point, if 'none of the above' was a possible ballot choice, I think it would be the winner.
Same as it ever was, check out Ronald Reagan vs Richard Nixon in 1968. Reagan won the popular vote but Nixon got more delegates. Reagan then spent the next 12 years fighting the elite, from inside the party, before finally defeating them in 1980. He must have been very hurt personally by the backstabbing of him in both 68 and 76, and even in 80 by George Bush. But he didn’t run away and form a third party, which he could have, and believe me Nixon and Ford were both big, no HUGE government types. As bad as the rep party is, and has been for a long time, it is still miles ahead of the alternative.
If you haven’t noticed, I couldn’t care less about what the lib sites or the harpies on the RINO anti-freeper sites say about us.
Welcome to Free Republic, America’s exclusive site for God, Family, Country, Life & Liberty conservatives!
Damn the libs and RINOS, full steam ahead!!
We are the resistance!!
Things have changed in 30 years. The RNC is now liberal. The DNC is communist.
What is Dick Cheny hoping to run for?
He said Mitt would do a whale of a job.
Sarah , whose integrity also can’t be bought , said that Mitt will surround himself with conservatives and that give her confidence in Mitt.
Sarah is not GOPe or RINO.
Again, if you want to be in the game you have to play their game. It’s just the way it is.
I absolutely refuse to vote for or support a known abortionist/homosexualist/liberal/progressive statist!!
Might as well get used to it. Its nonnegotiable.<<
Im with you 100% on that Jim. Its either third party or write in for me if Romney gets the nod.
Actually, thanks to the Tea Party, the Republican party is probably as conservative as it has ever been economically. Now socially I would agree with you, in much of the country, both parties are going to hell. Thank the internet, it has done some great things, but it has also opened small town America to things it had never seen before, many not good. With fewer and fewer people attending church, many churches are now fighting with others for members, so that people that should be on the same side are now infighting. I just don’t see how it gets any better from here, unfortunately.
I remember 2010. The RNC is a liberal, leftist organization. I also remember what happened to the Tea Party folks that were elected. The Republicans told them to sit down and shut up.
Of course they did, thats the way of the beast. We need to get more TParty people in there, and we can’t do that by staying home. Can you imagine speaker Pelosi again. I have a good man running here in Art Robinson, against Defauzio. Because this is Oregon, not Wyoming, Romney will have a chance against Obama, and if he has any coat tails in a moderate state, maybe we can dump Defauzio, who, unlike Obama, actually admits to being a socialist. His only redeeming quality is he is vehemently anti amnesty, and pro logging, which he uses to get reelected over and over again.
I think you should go back a re read the conversation :)
