Good Riddance. (Vanity)

About 17 years ago, in Rochester, NY, I befriended a small group of people. It was in my druggie days, and they were all big potheads. There was one couple in particular, the T's, I will call them.

I used to go to their frequent dinner parties, and all of us would have a grand old time. They loved inviting me, they called me the 'life of the party'.

Fast forward to now. I happen to look them up on FaceBook. We are all delighted to have reconnected. Things are cool. Over the course of time, the female starts bringing up politics, decrying those 'awful, racist TEABAGGERS'. I tell her my sympathies are with the Tea Party and all we want is a return to the Constitution. When she starts going on about how the Constitution was written by a bunch of racist, evil white men and that it needs to be completely rewritten, I advise her that we probably should avoid the politics discussions if we are going to remain friends.

She ends up being a founding member of Lincoln, Nebraska's Occupy Movement. She contacts me about it and wants me to celebrate it with her. I tell her that I am very happy she's found something that works in her life to avoid depression and her other issues, but I am opposed to the movement as a whole. Still, I stress, I'm happy that she's happy.

Over the course of time, I do my usual thing on facebook and post occasional taunts and jokes directed at the Occupy Wall Street movement. Then one day I notice that she's been missing in action. I go look her and her husband up.

They de-friended me.

Well, to that, I say, good freakin' riddence. I like to leave politics out of friendships, but you know what? OWS and the left are my ENEMIES. I cannot be friends with my absolute, mortal, hated enemy.

It’s simple:

1. Political commentary for me is read and posted here.

2. Personal events are read and posted on Facebook.

I usually don’t mix the two. My 60 or so FB friends usually don’t either.

I had a good friend for a number of years...then he found out that I stood with the people that "wanted to impeach Clinton over a BJ". Truth didn't matter; so that was that.

Don't miss him at all...not one bit.

Laz, it’s my firm belief that it is not possible for people like us to be friends with libs in any capacity. I have disassociated myself from every lib once in my life. Family included.

They hate us, they hate what we stand for and they are making an effort to destroy everything we believe is good, right and just i the world. It is not possible to be friends with such IMO.

You did not lose a friend. You gained peace of mind.

I have noticed that too- Liberals are extemeley thin-skinned

They refuse to discuss anything outside their beliefs in a rational manner

They must get together in groups and just constantly reinforce their own beliefs with each other

I have made it a point to NEVER discuss politics at work- especially if I see liberals working around me- those bastards will try to get you fired if you don’t believe as they do.

But the real question is this: Did you hit it?

Over education substitutes arcane knowledge for common sense and practical skills. This often leads to an artificially inflated sense of self worth.

Their value in society is only maintained if everyone keeps playing the game and the thin veneer of civilization is maintained. Once the feces hit the fan, most of their arcane knowledge wont buy them a cup of soup.

Yeah, I was born and bred in Rochester NY myself, but I escaped in 2000. When Hillary Clinton was elected, I realized the state had gone too far into hell. Sure enough, the taxes kept going up, the guns got more banned, and more leftists kept getting elected. After a brief detour, I ended up in Georgia, where I am incredibly happy.

I have had my own brother do the same, and I quote him...
“*POOF* you no longer exsist to me”
They call us narrow minded, yet they pull this garbage
Good riddance

Sorry, Laz. You tried to be kind and reasonable. But reason doesn’t work with those people. Also, one of the things I most hate about leftists is that they are so utterly humorless.

To hell with ‘em. What does it say? Light has no fellowship with darkness.

Would you have unfriended him if he had not unfriended you?

I’m a firm believer in love. It wasn’t meant to be for you with that person...but you’ll find her. Don’t give up. It took me long enough, LOL.

Me either. For some strange reason I just don’t like people who constantly talk about taking their fair share of my property. Call me quirky.

Laz, I am so happy you got a clear head, but it appears your friends remained POTHEADS. You don't need friends like that.

My response would have been "You're a POOF??!? I always thought you liked women."

*THEN* I would have cut the contact. :)

Yup. She's in her 60's now but atheist, God-denying and probably still using. I was talking about my 12 step stuff and she said she could never be into 12 Steps because she doesn't believe in God.
