A family got a rude awakening early Sunday when a car plowed through the cinder block wall surrounding their backyard and ended up submerged in their swimming pool.
Modesto Cabral, 40, of La Puente was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence after the 5:25 a.m. crash on Barrydale Street at Orange Avenue, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Steve Licon.
"We woke up to an awful noise and looked outside, and a car was in the pool," said Janelle Diaz, 16.
"We had always joked around about it - that someone was going to end up in the pool - because they've hit our wall before," she added.
Cabral suffered only minor injuries in the crash, Licon said.
He was westbound on Delvale Street in his 2006 Lexus GS430 approaching a "T" intersection before the crash, the sergeant said.
"Mr. Cabral allowed his vehicle to travel through the `T' intersection at Orange Avenue and continue over the west concrete sidewalk," Licon said.
After the car went into the pool, Cabral climbed out through the right front window, Licon added.
Cabral has an Amish sounding ring to it
Was it by chance a woman driver? Just curious...
I bet this jolted the suspect out of the hangover.
I wonder what the driver is going to sue the pool owners for. I’m sure he’ll find something.
Cold shower was not an option. A splash of cold water in the face was.
I thought that Ted Kennedy was dead.
2) Fence not sufficiently sturdy to deflect wayward cars.
3)deep end excessively deep
4)Just where is the child keep out fence? and not very effective I must say!
5)Insufficient protective devices in the event of car submergence.
6)No posted and stationed lifeguard.
No postings of no football throwing, frisbee throwing, or no smoking signs anywhere.
And probably something about the chlorine level in the pool being too high, causing pain and discomfort to his eyes.
WHY did I think of you two when I saw that picture???
When I was an ambulance medic in the late 1980s, I responded to the very same 911 call. A drunk driver lost control of her car. crashed it through a fence and ended up with the car floating in a backyard pool. I even have photos of the incident. This sure brings back memories.
Took a dip in somebody’s La”what ?
That’s just wrong.
Why is the first name that popped into my head “Clouseau”?
No dead girls involved. Can’t be a Kennedy.../s
Could have been a practice run. :-)
