Bride Claims PTSD After Company Moved Her Wedding
Toronto Sun ^ | FRIDAY, MAY 18, 2012

A Florida couple is suing a yacht company, claiming the bride suffered post-traumatic stress disorder after the reception had to be moved at the last minute.

A small fire broke out in the kitchen of a yacht that Karina Edde and Lorenzo Lapi leased from Great Bay Corp. for their Aug. 14, 2010, post-nuptials in Miami, reports Courthouse News Service.

The couple claim the yacht company didn't call the fire department right away, and then didn't call the coast guard for clearance to proceed after the fire was put out, according to the report. Instead, it decided to remove all the party paraphernalia from the boat and set it up in the lobby of the Hyatt Hotel, next to where the boat was docked.

The complaint, as quoted by CN, reads in part: "Great Bay ... horribly forever marred what should have been a very special and unique day for the plaintiffs, and left them with no alternative but to sullenly leave the dockside. The plaintiffs were unable to commence their life together as planned."

The beleaguered bride is reportedly under psychiatric care for the trauma and "devastation" she endured. She has been unable to attend any other weddings.

Edde and Lapi are seeking $4,200 in damages plus legal fees for breach of contract and unjust enrichment.

If she got upset that badly I am glad she isn’t my bride.

She is too easily upset for me.

This is a horse dung suit that should be tossed.

Sound’s like John Edwards side ho.

After a restaurant got her order wrong she had to have her “spiritual adviser” make an emergency visit to the restaurant to deal with the trauma.

What’s more important, the wedding or the marriage??

Hubby & I just wanted to get married and spend the rest of our lives together. The marriage was just a formality we had to go through. JP in my living room with 14 friends and family and a nice dinner after. Whole thing, including my dress (not a gown) was under $600

(20 years later & more in love than ever)

She may not win the lawsuit, but she’ll definately win the “disability benefits for life” lottery.

Yeah I’m serious. Something I picked up from the news a few weeks back with my morning coffee. This Hunter chick is a real fruit loop.

I'll say. And I think you're being too kind.

I so agree with you. A big wedding was a headache I didn't want to bother with. Plus, I didn't want to be sick over how much money we spent for one day that was over and gone. We eloped and had a big party afterward, and we were so relaxed and happy headed to our destination, instead of nervous and anxious. That was 15 years ago, and like you and your husband, more in love than ever!

I’ll take WOMEN THAT ARE NUTS for $800.00, Alex.

Yet another example of our need for tort reform.

I think the reception, being moved should have been free...makes sense. But this POS bride is, well, a POS.

PTSD? Really? Because her little party had to be moved? If I were her new husband I’d run. Of course he’s in on this, too. The want $$$.

Our culture is circling the drain.

A--holes like this "bride" give trauma a bad name. But the bimbo is one among many. I recall a case once where a grocery store customer claimed PTSD after a display of carrots fell on him in the vegetable section.

Truth be told, I don't blame the idiot peasants so much as I blame the unethical chickensh*t lawyers who bring such cases forward.

They need some real honest-to-god trauma done to them so they won't screw around and pull this slimey crap in the future.

I'm gonna agree with everyone else that the bride sounds like a "New Age" nutcase.

However, I don't see the law suit as frivilous.

They were supposed to have their reception on a yacht and probably paid a pretty penny for it.

Due to either incompetence by the company, or one of the companies employees, they did not have their reception on a yacht.
Not only that but they didn't even have it in a private venue but the LOBBY of the Hyatt.

I would probably sue for part of my money back also if the company and I couldn't come to an agreement.

They’ve already made it 20 months since Aug 2010. Who knows, could go 2-3 years.

Maybe incompetence or not.

Comp the reception, bid them a good life and maybe put them up at a Hyatt for the honeymoon.

That is all I would expect (if that) because I do believe ‘$+it’ happens and you compensate the ‘hurt’ people.

If she ‘suffers’ PTSD for a botched wedding reception she needs more than money, she could use a therapist.
