Google Chrome world’s most popular browser

The Internet king is dead, or at least has to share the crown.

Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, the web browser leader since the Netscape coup (circa 1995), has been surpassed globally by Google’s Chrome browser, according to recent numbers from StatCounter.com. There’s a good write-up at PC Magazine.

Chrome now make up about 33 percent of web traffic, a percentage point or two over IE. Firefox has about 24 percent of the market.

It is quite a change from a year ago, when Google only had a 20 percent share, IE 45 percent. Since then, Chrome has been on a tear: IE has dipped quite a bit and Firefox, largely funded by Google revenues, has remained fairly stable.

Chrome surpassed Firefox to become the No. 2 browser in December.

IE still reigns supreme in North America, however, 38 percent to about 24 percent, but Chrome is gaining ground there too.

I prefer Seamonkey. It’s a Firefox related browser-suite with a built in e-mail reader and a few other programs.

I run it off my thumbdrive using Portable Apps. I can use almost any computer and it always looks just like I want it to. Even has it’s own wallpaper.

Yet, Internet Explorer has more users than all of the other browsers COMBINED.

IE Rides Windows 7 and 'Beauty of the Web' to Continue Rebound

http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/254767/ie_rides_windows_7_and_beauty_of_the_web_to_continue_rebound.html

So, which is it???

IE losing ground, or IE gaining or regaining ground?

Depends...

On which side of statistics people prefer to present or use.

According to the article I quoted above, IE is still way ahead of all the others COMBINED.

Oftentimes, people fail to mention their preferences for using a set of statistics which seem very disturbing for Microsoft, which they, apparently, are biased against.

If Chrome actually had the largest number of users, the MS haters would be touting that statistic, rather than the one they're using, which shows "number of visits". It all depends on which set of statistics is most unfavorable to Microsoft.

This is funny because people using Google Chrome have the most problems accessing our business’ website.

Perhaps it might behoove your business to have a website that uses RFC compliant html. I know that when I go to an IE-only site, I spend just enough time there to let the website know they'll not be getting any business from me.

Wrong. Chrome only came out for Android in the last few months. Why are you having trouble believing it? Chrome has steadily been gaining market share. I’ve been using it since January 2009, and it’s the fastest. And the security is good. Firefox is good, especially if you like all the attachments, but I found Chrome to be the best.

I’m having trouble believing it because the change came out of no where. It’s much easier to belive that the whoever came up with this was simply wrong or lying. Webdesigners I know don’t even worry about compatibility for chrome, it’s not even part of their testing protcols. I use Chrome, Firefox and IE but the former don’t work for a lot of websites...because people aren’t designing for them as much as latter.

I don’t buy that chrome is “fastest”. Fastest at what? 99% of wait times on the internet are host speed, bandwidth and latency. A browser can’t increase any of those speeds. Speed of embedded code on the website is dependent on the resources of the machine not the browser.

Hello? Have you been following the browser market? This didn't come out of nowhere. In every survey Chrome has been gaining market share. In December, they said that Chrome surpassed Firefox. Analysts predicted it would overtake IE this year. Look at the graph. This is anything, but sudden. It was consistent.
