Google Chrome knocks Internet Explorer off the top spot as the world's favourite web browser

Google's Chrome has overtaken Microsoft's Internet Explorer as the most widely used web browser in the world, according to statistics released today.

Data from web analytics service StatCounter showed that for the week of May 14-20 Chrome has averaged a higher share of web traffic for a full seven-day stretch.

The development will be welcome news for web designers, who have long struggled with the Microsoft browser's patchy implementation of new web coding standards.

Statcounter's data showed Chrome in the lead in the field of five major web browsers, with 32.76 per cent share of users, while IE dipped to 31.94 per cent.

The change in web browsing habits represents a remarkable decline for Internet Explorer, which four years ago boasted a market share of nearly 70 per cent.

While it is not the first time that Chrome has overtaken IE, it is the first time that Google's browser has held its position for an entire week - though still by less than a percentage point.

And while Chrome is leading the browser market worldwide, it is still lagging Microsoft's product significantly in the U.S. and the UK

Been using Chrome as my primary browser for a couple years - since going to W7. Works great. Faster than the others and never crashes or has performance issues. Even managed to switch my wife on an old XP pc to Chrome - the performance improvements over IE8 were enough that I could postpone upgrading for another year. Not sure if anyone needs chrome though if all you’re using is FR - this site seems stuck in 1996 ;-)

Yes, AutoCopy is useful, and was included in my extn links, although what is missing among freeware for Windows is an autopaste feature. Years ago i came across the best replacement for WordPad, called TextShield (written by a teenage Christian), and it had it, but on my PC the autopaste feature does not work right under XP, and it is no longer supported.. http://download.cnet.com/TextShield/3000-2079_4-13288.html

You can save multiple sessions.

I have also used Yankee Clipper, but due to the limit i used http://clipdiary.com/ and http://ditto-cp.sourceforge.net/

Another neat app is PhoneTrayFree (http://www.phonetray.com/phonetrayfree.htm) It uses CalledID if you have it, and a modem to tell you who is calling, which you can keep as a record, and also zap telemarketers.

And AutoHotKey is very useful for launching services and apps, even web sites, etc. http://www.autohotkey.com/

I remapped my CapsLock key to ctrl+c, and Esc to ctrl+v, and NumLock to Esc, among other tweaks
