2 Alaska girls injured by stampeding moose EAGLE RIVER, Alaska—Police in Alaska say two girls playing in the street were injured when they were stomped by a moose. The Anchorage Daily News (http://is.gd/e69xTA) reports the girls, ages 11 and 6, were playing Monday when the moose chased them. Police in Eagle River say the girls ran to a nearby yard but the moose followed. Police spokesman Dave Parker says the 6-year-old was severely stomped on her back and arm. He says the older girl was struck by the collapsing playground equipment, and was treated and released at the scene.

Uncooked moose can be dangerous. Note that this moose was a long time fixture in the area. But, wild is wild - and wild and dumb is worse.

I hope not. Time to call in either Monty Python or Sarah Palin with her rifle.

Joking aside, I hope the girls recover fully. I've been kicked and pushed by cows before, but have never encountered a moose.

People think of bears when the subject of dangerous Alaskan wildlife comes up, but moose injure way more people than bears do. At 1500+ lbs and surprisingly fast and agile, a moose can mess you up fast.

Longtime or not, now that it's attacked people, it needs to be cooked moose - pronto.

Yup, there's no "running serpentine" that will get you out of that mess. I've had them run along side my truck and they can easily go 30mph without breaking a sweat.

I can’t either. I was going to make a Rosie comment but all I’m going to say is that I hope and pray that that little girl makes a full recovery.

Then she can grow up, learn to hunt and get some payback.

Every Freeper knows to prevent moose attacks, keep a wheel of cheese handy. Works everywhere south of the Mason-Dixon line.
