My nephew makes 2 kinds of beer. He’s much better than his father who used to have beer all over one area of their basement...tops would blow off...of course in the middle of the night. Whenever I was on leave, I’d ask if he was making beer...if the answer was “no”, I’d stay acouple of days.

It was really funny. He and I are still laughing about it. OTOH, we have not yet even mentioned it to the 13yo - she spent the night at a friend’s house and so didn’t witness our nuttiness :)

I agree. I have some green “yard long” beans and like them better than the regular beans. I pick them when they’re about a foot long and quite slim. I also have some Thai red long beans and honestly, they are producing like gang busters. We use all of our fresh raw veggies with our dips and sips. Great way to end the day. OH, no we don’t dip the tomatoes..just the green stuff, even rolled up greens and lettuce. I love this gardening stuff. I haven’t been doing it long and every plant is a mystery, for awhile, then it blossums out and it’s beautiful.
OH, a fellow offered a piece of land right next to our community garden, it’s about 1/4 acre. We do need to cut the trees and brush, root plow and get it ready. He’ll give us a year’s notice if he sells it. Things are looking better every week. People are wonderful.

Are those berries or fruit?

I think the soil I’ve planted my cucumbers (lemon) is a bit too rich. I have loads of vines and beautiful flowers, and 2 cucumbers. The other cucumber group, across the back yard, raised bed, the cucumbers form, get about 1 inch long then turn black. I don’t know what I did to this bed, cause the yard long beans are hard to keep up with, they are producing to fast. I’m pulling the squash, the vines have fallen over and died. They didn’t do well. “Farming”, I love it. It’s a learning process.

I think it may turn out to be a success. I added 20 FReepers to the ping list yesterday.

and one of them was my husband!!!!! One of your members paid me a huge compliment in response to my request to you to add coolbreeze! That was so nice, it was the icing on the cake for what had otherwise been a great day!

My daughter's middle school chorus competed in a Music in The Park competition yesterday and not only did they take 1st place in their division (2nd year in a row) they also came away with the Best Overall Performance trophy. And she was picked to accept the award on behalf of the rest of them.

What did you do to dry the habeneros out?

I’ve got a bunch that will need to be pulled up (I just grow them to keep the tree rats out of the tomatoes, and I need to change out the growth medium before I start new tomatoes in the fall). I was thinking about putting them in the sun oven with the lid cracked like I do for drying herbs.

Do you have grasshoppers? They’ve eaten the flowers off of my potatoe plants, but the leaves and stems are still intact.

What do habaneros do to keep the tree rats from your tomatoes? I wonder if habaneros would work with corn and keep the racoons at bay?

Congratulations to your daughter and her chorus - Good Job!

Yes one of the members said your husband found gold when he married you! I thought it was nice also. I think I have been convinced to go weekly with the thread. Looks like it will be Beer Thirty every Friday at 5:30 Central on the Homebrewing Thread.

I have a large dehydrator that I use but your method would probably work as well.

Thank you! They were really, really happy, but very, VERY tired kids when the buses pulled into the school parking lot a bit after midnight last night - they had left that very same parking lot at 5 yesterday morning.

I’ll let my husband know to expect to see it weekly.

I have them planted together in my hydroponic pots. So to crawl through the tomatoes they also have to crawl through the habaneros. With any luck, they will feel the effects right away and decide that this is not a place they ever want to be. That, or when they do feel the effects later it’s so bad that they put their little tree rat pistol in their little tree rat mouth and blow the back of their little tree rat head off. At this point, I’m good either way.

By the way, you may know already but when you dry them and crush them, be in a well ventilated area. I do the drying in my garage and the crushing on the patio. The fumes are obnoxious to say the least and when dried and crushed you may have a whole lot fewer peppers than you thought you'd have.
