Sociopaths are masters at influence and deception. Very little of what they say actually checks out in terms of facts or reality, but they're extremely skillful at making the things they say sound believable, even if they're just making them up out of thin air.

OMG! What a horrible thing to live through. To slowly come to realize that your husband/wife is so horribly broken.

So true! Can you imagine and to just have had this man's child. THe good thing for her is she is one of those workaholics that is quickly flying up the ladder of success in her job (supporting him of course even when pregnant, nursing, and raising the child.)

The bad news is it allowed her to quickly defocus and weaken herself to his manipulation otherwise of how truly sick he is. Only--I am sure-- to wake up years from now to be royally reminded of what she shoved down.)

Of course he has a permanent paycheck in her and she has a very 'attractive' boy toy (even though they are similar in age) but oh what a sick and scary one he is. I pray for that child's soul.

Being a writer I find this stuff fascinatingly intriquing in its human dynamics but very sad, scary and real nonetheless.

My sister ran into a narcissist at her church, which was already on the way to changing into one of those “mega-churches”. She was so upset by the woman that she started reading books about narcissistic personalities. They say that almost every church encounters one at some time. Narcissists love organizations that they can control and impress with their superior knowledge and skills, like churches and PTOs.

My sister ended up leaving her church because no one would listen to her criticism of the woman. She lost a lot of friends over it, because what the narcissist was doing was also covering for the inadequacies and failings of the minister.

Second- the writer recommends that people avoid working for big pharma?

The writer sounds a bit like a sociopath himself, though perhaps not a death cult leader.

The gifted ones are truly masters of psychology as well. I was very impressed initially with the true depth of knowledge this man had of all things that had to do with dynamics between people. In essence he actively studied and searched out information on the smallest of details that people respond to when building attraction, friendship etc. That was just the study (and he was pretty young.) but he was deeply intuitive as well and this combined with the sociopathic nature and his high level intelligence made me feel I would not be surprised when he is older that he has amassed followers and taken them down a very destructive path. Even his wife was starting to see chinks, but shut it up as they just had there first child together. But then again what sort of Christian marries and has babies with a self professed Satan worshipper? I personally am blessed to be out but still in retrospect find it bizarre to look back on when it comes to the ease of deception of some people. But then again deception is a sociopaths full time gig.

My sympathies. It's a situation where the person is turning a deaf ear to the truth. Well, God is love. I've known my share of at least narcissistic socio types. You have to love them because they're fun, they're funny, and ... like the guy wrote, the kind of folks people gravitate to at barbecues and such.

I can't stop loving this one person -- but I understand that I can only love her at a distance -- pretty much the distance of memory. I politely decline any relations. I hope your family member ends up deciding to love the sociopath from a safe distance. Prayers up for you. Care to share any details, or is it too ... just, too?

I would say that sociopaths would have at least a slightly above average IQ. If they lacked intelligence they would not be able to function since it requires a constant juggling of lies and an ability to play roles very well.

When you come across a sociopath of gifted IQ or better you have a serious problem. Adolf Hitler was one. I could name a few politicians in America too but everyone on this site already knows who they are.
