Blade Runner is the class of the list. Road Warrior is a classic as is The Thing. Not enough props for The Thing. It was a great horror flick and it’s special effects were copied in horror movies for the next 15 years. The ending scene is a true classic.

That was an amazingly bad year for movies.

Khan was the only decent one on the list. Yes Phoebe Cates was hot but if one wants to see her totally naked, you could watch an old terrible movie named “Paradise”.

Over the years I’ve read so many interviews with people across the spectrum that have cited Tron as a major influence on their work. Computer guys, writers, musicians/video people, artists, people in the special FX world... it’s really incredible how big an influence it was. The whole cyberpunk genre owes a big debt to that film as well. I was a geek to begin with but Tron pretty well solidified it.

And yea, the video game sucked, but it’s influence on gaming as a whole is staggering.

The Thing - Never saw it.

good horror movie. Not in the classic, "Hitchcock" suspense-type horror. Not a slash-and-stab-the-naked-teenagers-type horror movie.

Just an all-out, in your face, no-holds-barred, scare the pants off you, gross you out, and make you think entirely too much -type horror movie.

I saw it when I was a teenager and had trouble sleeping for a week. Saw it again awhile ago. Still was a little unsettling.

The movie version of Garp was as pretentious as the book.

Well, now I know who the other guy who read Garp is.

I saw the sequel to Tron in the theater.

Cool concepts, but it didn't hold up well.

I think that "Tron" will wind up like "The Matrix"... the visual effects in the original are so far ahead of everything else, that they stand on their own. And then, all of the sequels (or copycats) just don't cut it.

Even if you haven't seen E.T., you probably know the story. He comes to Earth and is feared by adults and loved by the children. He performs miracles and heals by his touch. The adults hunt him down and kill him. He resurrects and then ascends into the heavens to return home. I've heard that an entire religion was based on the movie. I'm looking forward to E.T. Returns.

****Yes Phoebe Cates was hot but if one wants to see her totally naked,...****

But then there is also Jennifer Jason Leigh in the movie. You can see “more” of her in FLESH AND BLOOD with Rutger Hauer.

At my age all I can do is wish...

I read Garp in my teens, thought it was great - but that is because I was in my teens.

The worst thing about “Ridgemont” was the idea that a good boyfriend is one who pays for your abortion.

I really enjoyed the sequel, but IMO, the big thing it lacked was the innocence of the first movie. The trend to make everything ‘gritty’ has killed or at least hampered some decent stories. In the sequel it kinda fit the storyline and all, (Can a digital world have ‘grit’?) but the first appealed to me more overall.

Batman? That should have been gritty from the TV version onward. Everything about that story is dark.
