Guardian UK ^

Posted on 06/14/2012 4:24:52 PM PDT by Perdogg

We are, on average, 3st heavier than we were in the 60s. And not because we're eating more or exercising less – we just unwittingly became sugar addicts

Pretty pathetic that the Guardian has to drag out Nixon’s bones for somebody to blame, even by their standards.

“Up a rickety staircase at the Newarke Houses Museum in Leicester, England hangs a portrait of Britain’s first obese man, painted in 1806.”

What nonsense. Henry VIII had a 52 inch wait by the end of his life, and that was long before 1806. Friar Tuck was also often depicted as a fat man, and even though he’s a character from folklore, if obesity was unheard of, then where would the inspiration for such a character be drawn?

Perhaps we ‘remember’ them because they were fat. The fact that they were fat was unique, odd, and worthy of being passed on as memory. The more unique someone is, the more they are remembered.

I hardly think we remember Henry VIII or Friar Tuck because they were fat. More like, I thought of them as examples of fat people from earlier times because they are known to me for other reasons, and just happen to be fat. I don’t have any reason to know Random Fat Guy from Sussex who died in 1302.

I’ve lost 50 lbs, but have hit a brick wall in attempting to lose 35 more, so I can be a Speedo model. ;oD

Just learned this week that the main culprit in American obesity, and many other diseases and maladies is WHEAT! If you’d care to check it out, do a search of “WHEAT BELLY.” That is also the title of a book by Dr. William Davis.

As I watch my great nephew and nieces play electronic games, there's no way I can buy into a lack of exercise not being a factor. As a child of the 50’s, we were basically kicked out of the house and played ball (football, basketball and baseball) from sun up to sun down.

The reason people are fat is because more food or nutrition goes in one end than get burned or comes out the other end.

No one is violating the laws of conservation of matter and energy

It will not be RASY steering clear of wheat. It’s in almost EVERYTHING. Even LICORICE is mostly wheat! I always used to finish off a meal at home with a couple of cookies....”Famous Amos” chocolate chip with pecans....Pepperidge Farm “Chesapeake” dark chocolate chunk with pecans.....get the picture? Now I limit myself to ONE (1) piece of chocolate or other candy which does not mention wheat or other gluten on the label.

My “Wheat Belly” has GOT to go!

And then there are people like me, who have gone through 50 lbs of flour since last November. I make all my own bread. I live by myself. And I still can't break 125. I may die without ever weighing more than that.

People are different. Anyone that tries to put everyone in the same mold is an idiot.

BULLSH*T.

People ARE eating more. People ARE exercising less. And the foods they are eating are processed junk.

Pushing the victim mentality makes me so mad .... "obesity is not your fault." It sure the hell is (in most cases).

You're eating crap and sitting on your butt all day. It's YOUR fault. Eat less and exercise consistently ... problem solved.

I’ve lost a lot in the past few months and am finally accepting and liking the choices I’m making in my food selection.

You’re talking about Gluten, right? Also, cut out your carbs or at least cut them way down. Your body converts carbs to sugar at a very fast rate, which is why runners and other athletes eat them before a big event.

Yep, during the summer months you left the house at sun up and moms didn’t start calling their kids names until the sun started going down. You might go home for lunch but that was about it, if you tried to stay in the house mom would get po’d very fast trying to work around you.

I am surprised I am the only person that feels this way. This article is part of subtle campaign to argue for the control of the food industry.

About two weeks ago, there were two articles both relating to weight and exercise.

One article stated that exercise was dangerous to about 10% of the population and the other stated that black girls had a harder time losing weight through exercise than white girls.

The narrative is going to be that the food industry must controlled by government in order to save us from ourselves.

There was an episode of Mission Impossible in Season 3 (Episode 5 - The Execution 11/10/68) where a Syndicate man is close to gaining total control of the food distribution industry in the U.S.

Well, we all know who the syndicate man is today.
