A suspected drunk driver leading police on a pursuit caused a deadly crash when her car collided into a taco truck.

California Highway Patrol noticed the driver weaving in and out of lanes on the eastbound 10 Freeway around 11 p.m. Saturday.

The female driver continued to drive after officers attempted to pull her over, eventually taking the pursuit to the 5 Freeway.

She then exited at Cesar Chavez Avenue, and, ignoring traffic signs, drove through a parking lot and into a crowded taco truck.

Two people standing outside the truck were hit and later pronounced dead.

One of the victims, 19, leaves behind a 1-year-old baby.

"[The driver] came off the freeway and hit my daughter and tore her apart," her emotional mother said.

The other victim, who has also not been identified, is a woman in her late 30s.

You conclusion of certainty that two folks would still be alive had no pursuit occurred is flawed logic. This woman was driving in a manner that pretty well guaranteed she would kill someone.

Letting them successfully flee only postpones the carnage until later. Better to stop them immediately.

Not so...I have driven legally drunk hundreds of times...And so have millions of other people...Without causing any carnage...

The driver was already “weaving in and out of lanes” on the freeway.

Bogus...I weave in and out of traffic on the freeway at times (sober) without being dangerous or a danger to another person...

Police dispathcher: One Adam 12. We have a suspected drunk driver heading eastbound on #10 Freeway.

One Adam 12: Dispatch, we're in hot pursuit.

(Yeah thats the ticket. You have a suspected drunk driver, so you chase them.)

They had her license info so they could have picked her up later without incident.

It would be nice if that were an option. But the woman would simply claim that she was not the driver at the time.

I recall a similar incident where the police were chasing a motorcyclist. The motorcyclist got away, but not before the police got his license plate number. The case fell apart because the police could not prove who was actually driving the cycle at the time.

Q: Your toddler picks up a sharp knife.
Do you

A: Calmly follow him/her and take the knife out of their hand.

B: Scream in hysterics and chase child around the house and grab knife as fast as possible.

I have heard that sort of logic lately from Oblame’o.

If not for my policies then unemployment would be far worse than it is now!

Moron? FU pal. I have been in those pursuits and they almost ALWAYS end in a MVA if pursuing officers keep after them. The chuckleheads keep fleeing even when you call them off early because they are just getting too hairy. Or even when they have hit the stop sticks and are running on rims.

My agency was in one recently that lasted over an hour, went into a neighboring state and then went into oncoming traffic on the interstate crossing the Mississippi.

Our best successes have been when we had the bird up giving us turn by turn, we lay back a little, the chithead always goes someplace to lay low and then we put the grab on him.

Problem is helos aren’t up 24/7 and they are expensive to run and maintain.

Most agencies don’t allow you to ram unless you have been PIT trained and you can’t very well run up alongside of them and empty a mag at the driver.

Yeah, but I had an uncle killed by a drunk driver. How do
you know your uncle didn’t cause many accidents on the
way home, or hurt or kill someone and then “miraculously”
got home safely?

This happens on the day that Rodney King is found dead.

The torch is passed.

Did you miss the part where I said my uncle should have been in jail?

That still does not mean I think it would have been good policy to chase him in hot pursuit whenever he was spotted weaving in traffic.

The same argument could be used to chase people spotted talking on a cellphone while driving, or eating, or whatever.

Hot pursuit has become a sport, news channels provide live feeds for an eager populace to watch the fun...many hoping that a hideous accident will occur and thereby multiply the excitement.

I believe all police should be armed with a Panzerfaust and if people run, they fire it and blow the car and driver to smithereens! It would save lives in the long run.

If you knew that the law wasn’t going to vicariously pursue a drunk driver, would you have that last drink?

It’s better to be thought a fool, than open your mouth and remove all doubts.. jus sayin’

My ex-husband had a superior officer convince him to let some boys go home one night after having pulled them over and discovering alcohol, marijuana. They lived just down the street, you know. I got to deal with him after he pulled a young woman out from under the dash of her car after one of these poor boys, just getting off of making one mistake, went back out. And the resulting lawsuits.

The blame lies entirely on the woman who couldn’t control herself enough to make intelligent decision. Got drunk, find a different way home. Got caught driving drunk, pull over and deal with your consequences.
