Gabriel Medina: Surfing? or Acrobatics?
NorthShoreHawaii ^ | Jim Caldwell Redondo Beach

Amazing video of Gabriel Medina surfing Pipeline. Just turned 18, has been on the pro circut for only a couple months and he has already won a couple of tournaments (even beating Kelly Slater in SF). Don't let the bikini clad girls distract you from a look at one of the next great stars of surfing. Medina is amazing.

I got to see Slater coming up as a young kid and this kid is better, IMO.

Brilliant stuff, rips the normal surf great imagination, has G Lopez smoothness on the Pipeline segments. The kid will be a monster. Now if he can master the really big stuff like L Hamilton when he matures...

I will pass along the complement. It's a friend site. Jim comes up with some amazing stuff on that site. I check it every week or so to see if anything is new.

Did you check out the video of the 2 year old surfing. That is just sheer joy.

2 Year Old Stoke If I hear anything on the camera, will let you know.

Slater is just a monster! 38 years old? Wow.
This kid is something special, though.

I know, Gabriel just has amazing agility. He also reminds me a little of Buttons and how innovative Buttons was at the time.

Sort of agree on the big waves. Medina doesn't look as comfortable on those yet...but he's only 18. What will he be like in 4 years? Laird is just in another dimension.

Thanks for posting that. Gabriel is a hard charger - not easy turning moves like that on inside chop & slop. Hopefully he keeps his head with all the attention because the North Shore is a den of iniquity (speaking of Buttons ... and a many others).

North Shore is an “interesting place”. A guy we grew up with was in the wrong place and definitely the wrong time was knifed to death awhile ago.
