6 Ways to Sunday:If Romney should be elected President, just where & how- will he take the Oath?
The Green Papers ^ | July 4, 2012 | by Richard E. Berg-Andersson

Should former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney- the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, as of this typing- be elected President by defeating the incumbent Democrat in the White House- President Barack Obama- he will face an historic dilemma: just where (as well as under what circumstances) will he be able to take the Oath of Office come Noon Eastern Time US [1700 GMT] next 20 January?

The problem is that, in 2013, 20 January falls on a Sunday and, therefore, the public Presidential Inauguaration festivities (the Swearing-In on the steps of the West Front of the United States Capitol followed by the Inaugural Address; then the Inaugural Parade up Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House-- not also to mention all those Inaugural Balls!) will have to be postponed until Monday 21 January this time round. Exacerbating this problem is the fact that, should Romney, indeed, become President as a result of the 2012 Election, he will not only have overcome the current occupant of the White House, he will also be of the opposite Major Party from that occupant!

Only six times before in the History of the American Presidency has the day set aside for the beginning of the Term of Office of a President (as well as Vice-President) of the United States fallen on a Sunday and none of the previous times this has happened provides all that much of a guide for what to do re: the swearing-in of a potential Romney Administration the day before a public Presidential Inauguration.

The source of the problem:

I wish he could take it at the stroke of midnight on Nov. 7, 2012. If they lose it is unthinkable what kind of damage Obama and his people will try to compress and accomplish between then and Jan. 20, 2013.

Who the hell cares?

Get the Marxist destroyer out of office first and he can take it in my backyard, floating in the lake, drinking a beer for all I care.

Oh yeah, Mormon. OK..Coke, Pepsi, whatever...Hawaiian Punch.

Just. Get. The. Marxist. Out. Of. There.

I’ll have top-notch pork BBQ just for giggles.

Guests will also be expected to sign up and bring a hot dish and help fold up the tables and chairs when the dinner is done.

Or just put him on a plane with a one-way ticket to some gulag in Siberia.

On previous occasions that this has happened, the Speaker of the House or President Pro Tempore of the Senate has been “acting” President (see David Atchison and Steven Ferry). Current law, though, requires either of those officials to resign their seats in the Congress before becoming acting President. So it might be Hillary for a day unless Romney can get his SoS confirmed early.

Private oath on Sunday, repeal Obamacare Monday morning then address the country. That works for me.

There is no problem with taking the oath privately on a Sunday. Many Christians do not believe in holding secular festivities; parades, parties, etc., on a Sunday.

Shouldn't be a problem at all - Jesus made it clear that the Sabbath was for us to with as we pleased, not a day when our hands should be tied. Anyone who has issue with it is more religious than Christian in their thinking -- or will still be trying to slam Romney as they won't even blink if Obama retains the WH.
