Visa Olympic commercial reminds me of 9/11 WTC jumpers. Very bad taste, IMO.

The commercial starts with diver David Boudia climbing up the Burj Dubai, and jumping off, with his reflection shown as the way the 9/11 jumpers were, and then he hits the water, and others were following him in their dives, only that they lived and the crowd celebrates.

Interesting description and I think I’d probably come to the same conclusion if I had seen it before being blurbed.

You need to realize that this was 11 years ago, and some people on this site weren’t watching the live coverage of the people jumping from those buildings. Of course the media then virtually blacked out any reference to those events, since it helps Republicans (in their twisted minds).
...but I do remember, and it is way too vivid. The idea of seeing diving off your own building from above had to be EXACTLY what thousands of people experienced right before the collapse.

I watched the Visa commercial and can see the unpleasant connection between the Olympic diver and the still-vivid images of the victims that jumped to their deaths from the towers on that fateful day (9/11/01). However, I doubt most viewers will notice any similarities. Frankly, I'm not at all convinced that the ad agency intended a connection. What would be the point? How would making that kind of very disturbing connection in any way help promote Visa cards? I give this TV ad a pass.

If this wasn’t designed to be ‘controversial’; then WHY have comments been ‘disabled’? Hmmmm..?

Youre reeeeeeally reaching to come to that conclusion Reeeeeally? Where does a person jump from over 200 feet and survives into a 12 foot pool of water, and we are supposed to believe that a person can survive an over 2,000 foot dive into a 12 foot pool of water.
JMO, the parallels of the commercial are undeniable, except when you jump off a muslim building you survive.

I went to the link and watched the commercial. I never would have made the link to 9/11 if it hadn't been pointed out to me on this thread. It's about diving off the top of a tall building into a small pool and has to do with the upcoming Olympics in London.
I think one would have to go out of their way to be offended by this.

Can’t argue that - I was just pointing out that some people here don’t have the background to understand the significance of seeing people jumping off of buildings has to others.
It’s sort of like being asked to register with the government if you’re Jewish. Sounds harmless enough...unless you know what comes next. Or registering your guns...

Well what can I say. Sorry for not being offended. I promise to try harder next time.
To: who knows what evil?
Actually you have it exactly backwards, if they want it to be controversial they keep comments ON, that way people can stir the controversy. You turn comments off when you want things to stand alone non-controversially. Someone will always find a way to misinterpret things.
