Current Global Weather Patterns Normal Despite Government and Media Distortions
Dr. Tim Ball: A Different Perspective ^ | June 28, 2012 | Dr. Tim Ball

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) science and its promotion involves selection of only material that supports the hypothesis that human CO2 is causing warming and latterly climate change. It is used in everything from tree ring samples chosen to create the hockey stick, to omission of the Milankovitch Effect, and the role of cosmic rays in the formation of low cloud from IPCC computer models.

There’s a similar pattern of selective reporting about weather events. People are inundated with reports giving the impression that what is happening is worse then ever before, unusual and therefore due to human activities. When weather and climate became a political issue through the IPCC claims of impending doom it became a focus for media. They all exaggerated everything to make it newsworthy, or presented only one side of what was going on because of political bias. So far in 2012 stories about warm weather and storms dominate the news, but that is only half the story.

The dome of cold air over polar regions is expanding as the world has cooled since 1998. Rossby Waves in the Circumpolar Vortex that circles from west to east in the middle latitudes switched from Zonal to Meridional flow creating different weather patterns in the middle and high latitudes.

Rossby Waves migrate from west to east on a 4 to 6 week basis. However, when the Meridional Wave amplitude gets deep, with cold air pushing toward the Equator and warm air toward the Poles the system blocks. Now the weather pattern migration becomes 8 to 10 weeks and people become nervous. That is what is happening in North America now, but all we hear about is the warm weather across the eastern half of the continent, with little mention of the cold and wet conditions in the west.

This is a good explanation of the hot weather pattern seen in recent weeks in the northeast. And in the southern hemisphere, cold weather has been the norm in many if not most areas.

I don’t know...Obama has produced enough hot air to fry Pluto.

I can't pretend to understand everything associated with global weather and climate.

However, you have to ask yourself a few questions.

Is there climate change? Probably.

Is it global warming? No.

Is it global cooling? No.

Are their cosmic forces at play? Absolutely

Is it man made? Part of it...maybe; no one really knows for sure.

Will driving a Volt save the world? Hell no!

Will Al Gore get rich off pushing a false narrative? Yup!

What can we as individuals do about it? Not much, especially since we don't know for certain that we are even the cause.

Should we do what we can to protect the environment? Sure! Trouble is that most of what the left wants us to do in the name of protecting the environment will not do anything to protect the environment.

So true. We have the best pollution controls in the world but the enviros want more. But they also want to maintain what they have (cars, lights that turn on with a switch rather than a match, etc.). However their demands for more regulations while keeping our modern conveniences has led to jobs and manufacturing going overseas where pollution controls are minimal at best. Ignoring those facts does nothing to improve the planet but does hurt our economy, which may be their ultimate goal as long as it doesn't restrict their standard of living.

You are right - it has been exceptionally cold in the southern hemisphere. Australia is affected by a cold, wet winter, which followed a cool summer, in South America, icy conditions are bad enough to affect crops, and in South Africa, there is great distress among the poorly housed, because snow has been falling in places like Cape Town.

Recently I was reading a biography of Constance Wilde (wife of literary figure Oscar Wilde). Not being an environmental work, it was able to talk about weather without propaganda. Note that exceptionally hot summers were seen long before the use of the motor car:

The summer of 1893 was peculiarly hot. The signs of an immient heatwave began to emerge in the spring. In Aprl residents of Coventry sweltered in 26.7 sunshine, while Cambride reached an astonishing 28.9 record temperatures for the time of year that remain still unbroken today ...

The book goes on to describe the longest London dry spells on record, followed by floods during August. English men were so affected by the heat that new fashions were introduced, for suits without waistcoats.

Imagine if this happened now - the outcry about global warming would be everywhere. But it was merely a heatwave, as has often been seen in history.

The Earth has been getting warmer and colder for 4,000,000,000 years. The only constant in Earths environment is change. It will continue to change till it’s consumed by the Sun.
