What’s the maximum distance you’d feel comfortable taking a shot? I guess it might depend on the terrain where you’ll be hunting.
I think something like the Leupold VX-1 2-7x33mm would be a good overall Shotgun Scope & could also be used with a muzzleloader.
mylife told me about a batch of Silver Bear ammo he had that had an improper 5.56 NATO round mixed in with the correct size. Poor quality control.
Maybe it was just a fluke. I have run somewhere between 1000 to 1500 rounds of Silver Bear through my CZ before this happened. However, that one bad round cost me a pistol. (Good thing CZs are built sturdy. It didn't blow up on me.)
I think I might pay a little more for ammo if I find a manufacturer that has a good reputation for quality control.
“Sounds like you’re in an area you can’t use rifles...”
Yes, Ohio. Slugs required, or certain pistols are allowed, as well as muzzle loaders.
Btw, we have a Muzzle Loaders Club just down the road from us, so they keep all the neighbors relaxed to the sound of gunfire. Makes it better for me when I go out into my ‘front yard’ and shoot on my ‘range’ into a bank even better than what the muzzle loaders have.
Thanks for the advice.
Thanks.
Other than Brown Bear/Silver Bear, Sellier and Bellot is about the only company that makes inexpensive Mak ammo.
By the time I would replace the barrel and slide, along with the labor, I would probably have as much in it as a replacement gun. (I also wouldn't know for certain if the frame was 100% after the incident.)
Since you can buy the surplus CZ82s for around $200, that seems to be the logical way to go.
“Most shots are going to be in the 60 to 75 yard range.”
I am most likely to be humting on my own property, and I would be well within that range. So your friend is apparently in tune with the suggestion that I have a low mag red dot. Neither barrel is ‘rifled’, but the 28” came with three chokes.
Same here when I lived in Indiana, no rifles. I was a cheapskate back then, I used muzzleloader only because you could use it during shotgun season and muzzleloader season and didn’t have to buy a second ticket.
Field of view at 100 yards on the 1.5-5 is 68’ and 24’ compared to frog’s 2-7 44’ and 18’. Frog lives in Texas so he probably shoots longer distances, me I was usually in a small field with houses around or in the woods. It really depends on how far you have to shoot. And if you’re shooting a shotgun slug I imagine it’s not that far.
My friend likes the red dot for fast target acquisition. (He also hunts deer with black powder. That gun is scoped.)
I also have been confined to shooting a smooth bore shotgun for deer here in Iowa (just because I haven't been able to financially justify a slug gun right now). One thing I do know is that the most accurate round for my 20 gauge with a 28 inch smooth barrel is Brenneke K.O. slugs. (Do not use sabot slugs in a smooth bore. They'll fly all over the place and keyhole like crazy.)
IMHO I would go larger with a caliber that is cheap and you can buy (or trade) anywhere. Either .308 or 30.06 would be my choices.
Just put a laser on that bad boy.
Can’t see a laser in daylight.
A green laser would be visible, esp. @ dawn & dusk. I was mostly kidding, since I think it may be illegal except for hog hunting.

I grew up in Iowa, native of Des Moines. Been gone since 1962, except for visits with friends, relatives. A lot of this is new to me...bought my first gun last summer. Getting the hang of it, and am either a good shot or really lucky. My first shotgun was a 12 ga pistol grip for home defense. Decided I needed this latest acquisition, and couldn’t pass up the deal.
I am left handed, but have found that I am comfortable shooting a pistol with either hand dominant. That is true with my Ruger Mark I and my Springfield XD 45 cal. My preference though is to draw left handed. And my preference with my rifle or shotgun is left handed.
I clicked the timneytriggers link and it went to some kind of moslem site. Is this a joke or something?
I have a Veridian green laser on my Glock 23 and it shows up well enough at the range during the sunny part of the day, at least out as far as my old eyes can see the targets clearly, which is about fifteen yards for pistol practice/drills. A red laser does not show up in bright daylight, at least at the wave lengths and power levels permitted for weapons mounting.
I do want a laser for my Glock, sounds like green is the way to go.
Sieller and Belloit or Privy Partisan for 9x18 ammo.
It looks like the site address had been hijacked. I tried the link and also typed in the address manually and both times I got the muslim sh*t.
